Car theft is a serious pandemic in Canada now. Be careful of the cars you see for sale in Nigeria. They might be stolen.

Nigeria is top 3 destination for stolen cars from Canada.

Organised theives steal cars in Canada and sell the cars to Africa and other parts of the world.

The car manufacturers are not ready, they are one of the major beneficiaries of these thefts.

You mean car manufacturers actually steal these cars and ship them here, or that they should be responsible for the security of new cars they sell to Canadians?

Someone that manufactures cars with cutting edge technology will steal same car and sell it to the poverty capital of the world. Ur brain de pain you ni?

If I still someones car from their parking lot in Canada and forge documents to get it through the shipping lines and eventually sell it in lagos, how does the Toyota manufacture company benefit from this?

Why don't u blame iphone company for the selling of that you people call London used iPhone?

The insurance company has to buy the car again for the customer from Toyota (that is, if itโ€™s insured from theft).
But I wonโ€™t call them a major beneficiary sha, some get slammed with law suit and then some loose credibility(value).
The thiefโ€™s are, since they are getting the car almost free and not all stolen cars are being replaced.

The car security is lackadaisical which makes it easy for the thieves to move the vehicle in under 2 minutes.

Owner would need to buy another fresh unit so the manufacturers win eventually. This has been on for years not a new thing

The thieves take advantage of the low security of the headlamp to perpetrate the act which the car manufacturers are aware of but have refused to strengthen the security in that aspect. Eventually every stolen car will need to be replaced meaning the manufacturer sells 2 units to one person, one of the units is subsidized by hardworking Oyinbo for African owner grin

That is a very strong possibility. People need to carry out due diligence before buying a car.

That is the reason why insurers in Canada will not rely on the tracking system by Honda CRV for instance. TD insurance does this.

They will insist on installing an immobiliser from their approved list and installation done in a separate company than Honda.

Well, the burden of proof lies with you since you accused the car manufacturers of complicity in car theft.

Thanks for the explanation. I didnโ€™t know about any of these. Can you shed more light on the โ€œlow security of the headlampโ€?

I have no idea what that means.

The canbus is there, they remove the wheel Arch cover, plug a scanner there and unlock vehicle by adding another key to it. Car is gone

Some utilize radio frequency trapping, they use a specialized tool in mimicking the key fob frequency. If you check the list of stolen cars, you will see german cars are rarely there or very few in number.

True.. only that it's not 'subsidized' here.. the selling price here is far above the price it's sold BRAND NEW overseas

You are saying the truth.

These companies know how to end and discourage people from stealing cars but they won't.

Just like phone companies know how to discourage people from stealing phones but they won't.

Naaaa. European cars are not spared from the trade, they only require a more sophisticated approach and the demand for it is not that much.
Saw a 50+mins documentary on the entire car theft industry and I just concluded that it will never stop. That industry is a multi billion dollars industry with a lot of corrupt individuals from all sectors benefiting from it.

Even the computer world, the security team need to work 247 because thieves do come up with new ways everyday to bypass security.

So in addition to the cars being stolen using technology, a car can literally be towed away the same way the repo men tow cars using their trucks.

Honda CRV is top on the list of most stolen cars.
