A fan has stirred up the biggest controversy in football from an Argentine since the 'Hand of God' itself with mind-boggling rankings dished out to some beloved legends.

A supposed list of the 100 best footballers in history has sparked mass hysteria on social media.

Little known Instagram account Gol del Corazon woke up and chose violence this week by ranking the greatest players ever. It was no easy task for the Argentina fan behind the account, though there were certainly some eye-catching rankings involved.

But there were some truly rogue shouts that caused an uproar online as the post was shared by a prominent Argentine football journalist, going on to receive millions of views.

Among the baffling placements were Angel Di Maria’s inclusion at 17, along with Thomas Muller at 27, Manchester United flop Diego Forlan at 46 and Antoine Griezmann, who is yet to win La Liga, at 48


Already a World Cup legend, Kylian Mbappe was way down in 86, while five-time Champions League winner Gareth Bale sat in a lowly 69. Among the other decisions that grated fans was Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry at a mere 58, Liverpool and England icon Steven Gerrard at 82 - 15 places behind Manchester United rival Paul Scholes - and Zinedine Zidane controversially left out of the top 10 altogether.


One Twitter user fumed: “Thierry Henry at 58, you must be joking..” while another tweeted: “The only position they got right is number 1. All others, very wrong.”

A third vented: “Di Maria above Ronaldinho I’m laughing blood,” while a fourth added: “This is the worst list I’ve ever seen.”

A fifth angry fan pointed out: “Probably a group of secondary school students' assignment to list the names of 100 players they know.” While a sixth added: "Scholes 67 and Gerrard 82, weren’t even a week ago Scholes himself was saying Gerrard is better."
