Those are easy targets for the government.

Charity they say begins at home. The people who live in such dilapidated structures do so because of their current economic condition.

What is the government doing to provide opportunities for the economic transformation of the lives of these people? As these people are moved out, what compensation is to be paid either to the building owners or the ejected tenants by the so called welfarist government?

What about the lives lost daily in Lagos due to bad roads and dilapidated hospital facilities?

As for the tribalistic fools (Ibo this, yoruba that) on this forum who are less concerned about the social issues therein please make Una try get sense small.... Una don dey old small small. A fool at forty is a fool forever.
WHAT??? Imagine the mentality of a supposed intelligent IGBO: Damn! So because we still have pocket of road dilapidation issues should necessarily ceases the government from performing all other aspects of governance and measures? OR must people die before your brain tells you the importance of PROACTIVE demolition of distress buildings?
MUST Igbos sees negativity in everything, even the POSITIVES? Is that the way your IQ are wired or is it the sadistic tendency at play? Perhaps, you tell us where in the world a country allows its citizen opportunity to keep the MORTGAGE s/he's unable to service financially, or what's the reasons behind numerous blocks of houses the governor has built and the numerous other housing properties/estates springing up in all the neighborhood if not to cushion the housing deficit the state has? Very good!

They should also look at Idunmagbo Avenue, Idunmota, Tokunbo, Adeniji Adele, Idoluwo ( those old inherited houses!) Agaraawu and especially that Princess street and Aroloya

Lets be honest, in fact major parts of Lagos Island houses need to be examined especially those built by greedy developers.

Those MF can build with anything if not strictly monitored

Read what I wrote and this time try to do so disapassionately.

I am not against any so called demolition provided appropriate compensation is provided to both the owners and the tenants ejected.

Also we don't have pockets but plethora of road issues plaguing the state which people die from every day.

You just need to stroll to any health facility in the state to witness the amount of people who lose their lives daily because of the state of our health care facilities.

To me these represent more critical areas deserving of attention than the so called buildings involved.

As to the issue of tribe, read what I wrote again and note that I am non partisan. All people trying to bring ethnic colouration into the discussion of social issues affecting the lives of ordinary Lagosians need to have a rethink and grow up urgently.

NO one argues viability and functionality of any institution with you but that doesn't make the state proactive measure less commendable. Learn to give credit when and where due, not all situation attracts wail and complaint.
YOUR submission was very poor and f00lish. THE analogy is that afather should cease any other household commitment (providing food, clothing, bills) because his kids are unable to resume school for non-payment of the fees. LIFE mustn't stop because a part is ailing!

I have tried to overlook your intellectual shortcomings and tried to have a matured discourse with you but it seems that you are hellbent on exchanging insults which I am not going to besmirch myself by engaging you along those lines.

If government ostensibly is out to save lives there are far more important things that can have the greater good than rendering people homeless without compensation. Governments from time immemorial have demolished structures to build roads and paid appropriate compensation. So if the government wants to engage on demolition exercises, by all means let them proceed but they should pay compensation to all affected! Not only will this generate goodwill for the government, but it would also help avoid potential crime and environmental issues from the displaced persons. However it makes no sense to save one life from demolished buildings while you ignore ailing hospitals and bad roads that kill 100 more people per 1 person killed in collapsed buildings. The stats are there. Google it and compare the death stats over the last 5 years from road accidents and hospitals to collapsed buildings for yourself.

A father who needs to pay for his child's school fees would not be looking for how to pay new sandal for his child who shoe is worn out but wearable until he has been able to hustle and pay school fees. Similarly it would be stupid of a woman to go and make her hair when her children are hungry in the house. Understand what scale of preference is and what should be the priority and vice versa.

POOR analogy too. IN my post, did I mention unnecessary things like shoes? I mentioned clothes because no matter how hard things could , you'll never aspire for your kids to go about in rags or nudity, especially ifyou have a female among .
HOUSES that were meant to be demolished are not manageable, they're dead traps and according to statistics, many vibrant souls had lost their lives as a result of such negligence. IF LIVES ARE NOT IMPORTANT, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE IS. SO I liken it with food, bills, clothing etc.
ABOUT compesation, how? DON'T demonize the government. EVEN in saner climes, nobody gets compesated for not being able to renew your mortgage facilities, what you get is LOAN and you must pay back. AFFECTED people can get loans here too to facilitate reconstruction or better still, approach PRIVATE DEVELOPERS for partnership, that which happens abroad too.
TO conclude, I'm not against other institutions functioning well but what I don't buy and can't stand is you rubbishing this good move which if pursue deligently will help save many lives. THANKS AND BYE!

Lol.

Yoruba is supreme.
But same Yoruba Muslims believe religion supercedes isese festival. Lol or is isese not your heritage.

Until you live your life without masturbating on other cultures. You will always have insecurity and failures as your necklace.

If we check you now we would see that you have never really progressed.

Truth is progressive Yoruba people know that to be successful you need to love Igbo people and learn from them.

Thank God even the north knows business is for Igbo but try to make power theirs. At the end no dividends.

But you can see the dividends of business in Igbo culture.

If you see an Igbo beggar then know he is truly blind.

Igbo people have no issues. They are very resilient and humble. They do not try to impose religion or culture instead they learn to adapt to yours. That is why they live among the most bizarre cultures.
Igbos live in Saudi Arabia peacefully and some so called Muslims can not even live there because of the laws.

Igbos are great people.
They love peace.

You can not compare the peaceful nature of igbos with any culture

Igbos have been in Lagos for over 100 years and constitute a large percentage but you hardly hear they take up arms to fight.

In agege in lagos state where notherners plenty they fight almost monthly or even weekly

Igbos live in the north the core parts of it. But you hardly hear that they were attacked for religion issues. They respect their host.

Igbos are so kind that after making wealth they build roads for host communities and give them light. We have many bureau de change notherners who are billionaires but will never build a house instead they rent.
This is selfish behavior and that is why agege in lagos has really seen no positive change.

Igbos even go to the extent of allowing inter tribal marriage a sign of peace.

Igbos love business and even teach Yoruba people. I know an Igbo man who trained many Yoruba people. Talk of selfless service.

Igbo man has no reason to destroy it's host in the next 1 million years. That is why he does investment that will span a life time. Buildings and constructions.
Go to kano, Abuja and lagos and see wonders
You can not say this of Yorubas in the east or Northerners in the east or west. Most do not really love their host.

The only issue igbos have is being igbos.
Igbo is now synonymous with success.

I once predicted that Igbo will only rule when there is a natural disaster from the north.

Lol
Fatality!!!!😄😄😄😄
