Following the explosive interview in which Professor Wole Soyinka called LP/Obi and its supporters "Gbaju e", I deem it necessary to explain the meaning of this phrase to the non-Yoruba speakers who might not know the meaning, its weight, and imports of it for Obi and his supporters.

"Gbaju e" is used in Yoruba language to describe fraudsters. The use of the phrase became popular during the raise of "419" and scammers in the country. When we call a person "Gbaju e", nobody wants to have anything to do with you. It is an indelible social stigma that nobody wants.

Calling Obi/LP "Gbaju e", therefore, is a serious issue as it robs Obi/LP of credibility now and in future. It puts a toga of dishonesty on the person of Obi and those supporting him. "Gbaju e" are those who don't care how they get anything including hoodwinking others. They just want to get it... This is what fraudsters, 419, scammers, etc, do. For a presidential candidate to be tagged a "Gbaju e" (i.e. a fraudster), it speaks volume.

And this label is coming from Professor Wole Soyinka. I, therefore, don't know how this won't stick, and how Obi wants to remove this indelible negative mark from his forehead.

OP, thank you for explaining the "Gbaju e" from your own point of of view

Let me ask you and please be truthful so that you don't become a "Gbaju e"

If you place Tinubu and Peter Obi, looking at their origin, ancestry, educational qualifications and background and their activities while in government, whom will you describe as "Gbaju e"

Only a Gbajue will come third in an election and expect to be declared winner...

Only Gbajues will be shameless enough to want to impose a Gbajue on Nigerians through cyber bullying and intimidation.

Thank you for explaining the meaning of Gbaju e.

It is widely believed that something like this is prominent in Igboland right? What is the Igbo term for it? Wayo? 419? All imported terms.

Such things have no roots in Igbo culture.

On Record. Just as I was rushing to work today and equally branched to buy A 5L worth of PMS (3500 in Naira), the fuel attendant decided to do me Gbaju e by selling empty fuel into my Fuel tank. Unknown to him, my moto is already running on the reserve, as I speed off on the highway to navigate - the inglorious Gbaju e hanky panky nonsense and idiotic no good fella shady deal was thoroughly exposed . I was in " sifia " pains for using me as a Gbaju e Victim. On the Record .

Gbajue is a big Fraud wrapped carefully up in a mountain of lies to look nice and pretty

A good example would be an Estate Agent trying to sell you the Second Niger Bridge or the 3rd Mainland Bridge

It should be obvious that it is a big Scam because it isn't his to sell

Where is the lie in what Soyinka said?.. Is Obi not 'gbaju e' true true??

A man that came third in an election, claiming he won yet has no proof.. How else do you define a fraudster and liar??

The Soyinka that you see today is not the same person that he pretended to be, or portrayed himself as, in the yester-years. The full unraveling of the Soyinka you see today started in the 2015 elections.
He is sincerely and unashamedly passionate about the course of the Yoruba race, and there is nothing wrong with that, the only issue is that he masqueraded this parochial identity with his pseudo nationalistic postures and rhetoric; and he did fool everyone until recently when old age started showing the true nature of the man.
Do you really think anybody in present day Nigeria takes Soyinka seriously enough to think that Peter Obi is a fraud simply because the latest demagogue in town said so. Soyinka is now categorised by many to be in the same league as MNK, Asari, Reno and Ishaq Akintola.
Pray not to see the people you look up to unravel before your own eyes. It is a very surreal and painful thing to experience. I saw through him in 2015 and take his postulations with a pinch of salt.

P.S. Most of renowned men of old have sold their honour for a morsel of porridge.
