Submissions are now open for the 2023 edition of the Toyin Falola Prize. The fourth edition of the prize is themed “Sacred“. If you have a short story that explores the theme of the sacred, then consider submitting it to this esteemed prize.

The Toyin Falola Prize is organized by Lunaris, the publisher of Lunaris Review. The prize was created in honor of the distinguished African scholar and historian Professor Toyin Falola. The Prize is meant to honor his endeavours and contribute to the advancement of the richness of African culture, people, myth, history, advancement, and modernity.

The winner of the Toyin Falola Prize will receive $1000 USD with an invitation to the BIGSAS Festival of African and African Diasporic Literatures at Bayreuth in Germany, while the shortlisted entries are granted $100 USD each.

This year’s edition of the prize is interested in imaginative and bold works that test the limits of our understanding of the sacred, show us the sacred in the profane, where the sacred resides, and the things that deny the sacred its due.

According to the prize guidelines, the theme “Sacred” is to be interpreted very broadly: in religious, secular, mysterious, virtuous, and cherished terms. Sacred could be about piety and consecration, or not. What is sacred can be material, psychological, or political.

Submission Guidelines:

Open to Africans between the ages of 15 and 35
Short story should be between 1,500 and 4,500 words
Send submissions to prize@lunaris.com.ng with the submission title: SUBMISSION FOR THE TOYIN FALOLA PRIZE 2023
Deadline: October 15, 2023

That is why we should be careful who we vote into offices, The damages Obi did is taking many years to fix

Reason why someone as terrible as Obi should never be allowed in power at any level going forward

NON indigenes of Anambra State resident in the state, under the aegis of Assemblies of Non-indigenes Association of Nigeria, yesterday, threatened to mobilize its members to boycott the election if the marginalization of non-indigenes allegedly initiated by a former governor of the state continues unabated.

National coordinator of the association, Ibuchim Ezekwere, who disclosed this shortly after their crucial meeting at GRA Onitsha, said the marginalization syndrome started during the tenure of former Governor Peter Obi’s administration when he bluntly denied non-indigenes of the state the opportunity to contest any elective position.

Ezekwere contended that such a denial cuts across market leadership, to the extent that they were not allowed to contest an election into the leadership of all the major markets in the state
. He, however, noted that although the incumbent Governor Willie Obiano came on board with a different policy that partially addressed the marginalization issue, the non-indigenes are now demanding full right and participation as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Japa na by any means. After you get your stay after 5 years, you fit comot for teaching
Chief read through the link and this part you referenced getting stay after 5 years wasn't quite addressed...by stay you mean spending 5 years in the UK to get kpali (regardless of if you get another job outside teaching in the UK), or that the VISA which the scheme provides comes with the condition that the applicants must remain in the teaching profession for the entire 5 years as long as they're in the UK?

I have said it before that your original thoughts about Soludo are well documented on this forum. Consequently, this new found love is dead because it is obviously agenda driven.

I will tolerate Oasis stanning Soludo but you? Oh hell no!

You get permanent residency after 5 years more or less, then passport after another 5

Your teaching skill is what gives you working visa which after 5 years turns to permanent residency. After that you can do whatever job.

Or take the shortcut and marry while teaching cheesy
