I Am Aware That Nigerians Are Going Through Hardship Because Of My Economic Policies  —  Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that he is aware of the ‘transient hardship’ his economic policies have caused Nigerians.

Naija News reports that the President’s policy decisions, especially the removal of fuel subsidy have led to economic hardship in the country.

Speaking at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday morning, Tinubu explained that he removed the ‘costly and corrupt fuel subsidy’ and discarded the ‘noxious exchange rate system’ on his first day in office to foster economic growth and investors’ confidence in Nigeria.

However, the President said that it was important for Nigerians to go through the transient hardship to enable his government to build the economy they deserve.

He said, “I am mindful of the transient hardship that reform can cause. However, it is necessary to go through this phase in order to establish a foundation for durable growth and investment to build the economy our people deserve.”

The President, therefore called on the global community to partner with Nigeria and Africa in a mutually beneficial manner.

“The question is not whether Nigeria is open for business. The question is how much of the world is truly open to doing business with Nigeria and Africa in an equal, mutually beneficial manner,” Tinubu said.

You don't get it. FDI is minor to the development of any country and attracting it should not be the priority of any serious government. How many times has presidents of China, India, UAE, US and UK come to Nigeria begging for FDI? The problem of Nigerian politician is that they use to major in minor and minor in major. If there's security, low corruption and stable economy, begging for FDI won't be necessary. You don't beg people to invest. It's not done like that anywhere in the world.

It's a known fact that Nigerians must undergo hardship for us to become the Nigeria we really deserve but one thing us common the politicians are left out in this hardship...they are giving themselves juicy packages while the masses have to deal with lower standard of living some not even able to feed comfortably.

Our major source of funds is threatened by high debt servicing figures where large proportion of your earnings is going towards servicing loan all thanks to the last government and his economic management team. Evening government is not and should not be in the business of opening factories or opening businesses, they are in the business of providing incentives to drive new investments. That’s what that man is doing. Nothing bad at all.

Bottomline, we need both external and internal investments. BUA IS INVESTing, Dangote is investing, Otedola is not sleeping, many local banks are investing locally.
