About two weeks ago a man appeared on a road path which I usually follow to work somewhere here on the island I noticed that the man passes his night on bare floor there I was so disgusted at why someone will appear to resolve so low to sleeping on the bare floor on a major walk way and obstructing passers by a little after two weeks I'm always disgusted seeing him but something odd happened sometimes last week when I was passing by I felt and unusual pity for him so much that I thought of dropping a thousand or two for him that morning without thinking of what ever he wants it for but another thought came up on my mind that made me shy on doing so that others passing behind me might think I have too much to give that's why I'm giving him that or why would I be handing him one or two thousand naira I resolved at not giving him the money and shocking, from that point forward I never saw the man there anymore sadly two days ago I got to know that the man died the night I thought of giving him because an heavy rain fell and he was without shade and he died as a result of the cold later on I found out that the man resolved to start sleeping on the walk way because they introduced a new policy in the market complex where he has had a shop since his youth which has been his house as well that no no one is allowed to sleep in their shops anymore and that's what got him where he was two weeks so sad.

How do you guys manage to write without punctuation marks

And you're a man for Christ's sake! This is more common with young girls as they write exactly the same way they talk.

Maybe God ministered to your heart to help him and he would have used that money to buy a trampoline to protect him from extreme cold. He would have survived and life would have rewarded you

You didn't just want to help the man. Imagine the excuse you are giving that you were worried that people would see you giving him money. If you wanted to help him, you would have just squeezed the money into his hands.

Your excuse is not excusing. Were you planning to wave the money in the air for everyone to see or how would anyone see how much you were giving him? All you had to do was bend your body a little to give him the money. You would've given it to him if you really wanted to.

Your excuse is trash. Although I don't think he would have survived it given the amount you had in mind. Your 1k or 2k would only have given him some food before his death.

You clearly did not have what he needed at that point - shelter.

Why will you be bother about what people will say when you are trying to render a helping hand.

If you scam me into helping you I leave you with God, I will still render help to the next person my conscience leads me even if it still turn out to be scam. Pleasing my inner mind and not having a feeling of quilt is what matters to me most.

Well it's your money. You reserve the right to use it the way you deem fit and you will give account on the day of judgment. As for those condemning you, I can guess that if they were in the same situation they would have acted like you did or worse reasoned in their mind that the man should go get a job and earn a living instead of sleeping on the road. Herein lies a lesson for all to remember:

Whoever shuts his ears at the cry of the poor will cry out himself and not be answered.
Proverbs 21: 13

It was actually a test for the OP. That money/help would have changed the course of the man's decision on sleeping out there .
He would have had a reason to miss that night he died there.

Reading this deep down me I feel remorseful, sometimes people needs help but immediately they voiced out, some turned on deaf ears to their plights. Since you noticed his appearance is neat not like a retard or insane fella, at least you could've reached on to him then engaged him with a light conversation and I'm slightly sure he might narrates a bid about his lifestyle, what brought him there and then you offered him what's in your minds. As for the guy asking about the nature of his shop, it's might be a tarvan or a mini shade shop and not making necessary or reguire sale's and for the OP just free your mind and learned your lesson then seek atonement with your maker but until then...
