The top 5 non oil forex earners have done well. I urge them not to rest on their laurels.

These companies, all based in Southwest region of Nigeria, especially the indigenous ones, are an inspiration to many others that you can make it here in Nigeria too and earn great returns from exports. Don't be a lazy youth.

The government should indeed get more serious on electricity especially. The wise thing to do if you want to eradicate widespread poverty, hunger and unemployment is to produce most of what you consume.
God bless you for the boldy. My friend had to lay off stay 3 months ago as a result of this and now his contemplating on closing the factory as the light and diesel bill are making him run at a loss.

Where is Dangote on this list. With his fertilizer plant, cement , salt.. ?

I expect most of his business to be on this list - except he is somehow diverting his foreign earnings.

When you spend all day on Nairaland with your negative mindset , insulting everyone including the leaders and the land till it withheld its blessings from you and you fail to meet the right set of people who can teach you the right legitimate way to go about it, everything will remain hard for you nah.

There's a Korean proverb that if you see nail in every issue presented to you, instead of using your brain to solve it, you will be looking for hammer.

There's no where in the world where entrepreneurs find it easy so stop deceiving yourself. It's very very hard and that's why most people don't take the Entrepreneurial journey. Export business is particularly hard everywhere in the world!

The Founder of one of those 5 companies is a Nigerian like you, he did not even go to school like you! Yet, he started learning commodities traidng in his late teens and early 20s in the old western region then proceeded to farming and buying cocoa beans then exporting overseas, he is in his 80s 0r 90s today and still Chairman of the company. Behind his success is about 60 active years of intense hardwork and positive mindset. Today, one of his Children, who are very well educated, is the CEO of the company. The company he founded in his 20s is today the highest indigenous non oil forex earner. That's powerful. What then is your own excuse? Social media entertainment and cyberbullying addiction? Smh

Quit decieving yourself. Business is hard everywhere in the world and Nigeria is no exception.

Below is a short video of an American entrepreneur swearing in a court deposition and you can see him admit he has problems and how stressed he is. Entrepreneurship is for the bold and positive minded who are teachable too.

Nonsense! There scould have been thousands of small scale impoters that would have contributed more to the economy.

We had to shut down our cat fish farm worth millions of Naira as DHL was billing us N5,000 per Kg to export to Europe, our target market, despite great demand.

Nigeria wants to make more money from export duty and siphon it rather than give its citizens the avenue to make wealth for themselves.

There is a difference between organic and synthetic fertilizer. I believe Dangote refinery is getting into this too. Other than fertilizer they produce PET resins, polyester fiber and polyolefins.
Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited (IPL) is the largest producer of olefins and polyolefin plastics in West Africa.

Urea. Crude oil export is different. If you use urea to fertilise the cashew tree then by extension, it is crude oil dependent too.

How can they change their mentality on imports? Policies in the country isn't favorable for production. Cost of production will cripple both buyers and sellers. If the govt wants to encourage local production let them stop lip service and put up measures, palliatives and incentives to encourage local production. It is cheaper to import than produce in this country despite the fact that we have all the raw materials
Don't mind the clown. Have you seen country manufacturing in darkness? A country with refineries yet they have been importing fuel for over 15 years and you think the problem is Nigerians that loves importing.

Nigerians producing in Nigeria, which policy are they using?

Report came in last year that Nigeria sent over $50m to China for fake human hair. Are there no made in Nigeria human hairs? What happened to them using such money to patronize made in Nigeria human hair?

Our naira will keep paying the price..
You cannot tell Nigerians how to spend their money. There was a time we were listening to foreign music but now we listen to Nigerian music not because it is made in Nigerian music. If you do quality things Nigerians will patronize it. If you produce crap we will not patronize because we want made in Nigeria. If wike had use local contractors to do port Harcourt road....lol. by now the road for don spoil.

Revolutionised marketing for business growth. These are amazing innovations and ways to deploy marketing AI to shoot your business to the top.

The market's taste is changing, so should your business. Competition is increasing. Any sense in continuing to be a jack of all trade when you can just simply leverage on successful businesses?

And do you expect over 20 thousand people around the world to be fooling you!

Wouldn't you rather take the decision for more leads and SALES today? Sometimes in less than a day.

I am sorry for your loss...but I have few questions to ask:

- Did you ask for a loan from a microfinance bank?
- Since the catfish business was worth millions and you had GREAT DEMAND from Europe, why didn't the banks lend you money? Also, there are could be other affordable alternatives to export your product? Also, did you have a willing customer to purchase your products once it got the destination?

I am genuinely curious why you had to shut down a million naira business considering you had buyers who will pay you euros, which means the 5K per kg would not or should not be a problem.
