Na lie. Buhari was going to use her as an example, because she was very notorious for corruption at the time. She herself knew he was coming for her, and fled.

But you're probably right that she would not be in trouble today had she remained in Nigeria. Maybe Buhari would have jailed her for a couple of years at most, and she'd have been out, and even be claiming saint, and unjust treatment.
