The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed concern over the rejection of corps members by some employers in the North-East region.

The NYSC director in charge of the zone, Garinvwa Ishaya, stated this at a one-day corps employers’ forum, on Monday in Yola.

The theme of the workshop is: “Deepening Corps Employers Participation towards Improved Welfare And Security of Corps Members”.

He said the trend was discouraging to the corps members and the scheme, adding that they should be accorded enabling environments in their places of primary assignment to contribute to the social and economic development of the country.

“The scheme was established to add value to our socio-economic development as a nation and it has made tremendous impact in further uniting the country.

“We passionately appeal to the employers to always accept corps members deployed to their organisations for prosperity of the scheme and the nation at large.

“Employers are expected to make statutory welfare provisions for corps members to cover their transportation and accommodation,” he said.

He, therefore, urged state governments to provide decent accommodation for the corps members and sought the support of local council chairmen towards promoting the objectives of the scheme.

Earlier, the NYSC state coordinator in Adamawa, said the forum would enable the participants to brainstorm and exchange ideas on implementing its mandate as well as get feedback on the scheme.

The NYSC North-East zonal office is supervising Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Yobe and Borno.

When some state government cannot afford ordinary 5k monthly for corpers posted to cover their shortage of public schools teachers, they want private businesses to accept them.

States like Ekiti ,Gombe,Ondo ,Osun, Benue, Delta,Edo ,Bayelsa , yobe, etc pays corp member nothing.

A corps member who was posted to the North East but didn't redeploy to other states outside the region doesn't know how much his/her parents have invested in them.

Broke! The north east is about the least buoyancy economically, with also the least industrialized in the nation. Apart form government organization, the only next vaibale ventures are NGOs.

LOL, they're now begging employers to accept corps members?

NYSC has outlived its relevance, the scheme is a waste of money and time. If the government wants to save money and boost the economy, NYSC is one of those unnecessary things that need to be scrapped in this country.

Let the NYSC employees be diverted to other agencies. The soldiers working for them should go back to the Nigerian Army.

NYSC should be scrapped angry

, it contributes nothing to the economy it's just an avenue to loot and f*ck anyhow.
NYSC should replaced be with
1 3 months of compulsory military training which will empower every citizen to be self-defensive (bandits, UGM, robbers, kidnappers and all criminals will think twice before attacking anyone. ).
2 3 compulsory months of entrepreneurship training in major areas of the economy which empower graduates to be self-employed.
Then the government will give all participants a non-interest loan of 2M to start a venture (this will distratically reduce the unemployment rate in Nigeria and increase our IGR) because the government spends more than 2M on each corp member with no tangible returns as we speak. Counterproductive programs like NYSC are one of the reasons why productivity has declined in Nigeria
