Israel-Hamas war: Why Africa is so deeply divided over Israel and Palestine: In January this year, Mandla Mandela took a bold stance when he called for the freedom of #Palestine and #WesternSahara at the opening ceremony of the under-17 African Nations Championship in #Algeria.

Speaking at the newly built Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, Mandla was met with contempt from #Morocco, which controls about 80% of Western Sahara and has pushed for its authority over the territory to be officially recognised.

The #PolisarioFront, backed by Algeria, controls the remaining 20% as the #SahrawiArabDemocraticRepublic (Western Sahara), which is recognised by the #AfricanUnion as a FULL member.

Morocco happens to be one of the African countries that support Israel in one of the world’s longest-continuing wars, the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

In recent history, Morocco’s claim to Western Sahara was recognised by the #US in 2020 under then-president Donald Trump.

The US’ support was a trade-off for Morocco’s recognition of #Israel.

That means Algeria and Morocco are on different sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In a statement in response to the recent attacks, Algeria condemned the “brutal Israeli attack on #Gaza“, which resulted in “innocent sons and daughters of the Palestinian people who fell as martyrs under the persistence of Israeli occupation”.

For its part, #Tunisia said: “It is the right of the Palestinians to take back all Palestinian land.”

#AfricanUnionCommission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat at the weekend found himself in a tight spot when he issued a statement that the #AU “calls on the international community, and the major #world powers in particular, to assume their responsibilities to impose #peace and guarantee the rights of the two peoples” in Israel and Palestine.

All sane nations know that a two state solution is the best solution but those on the far right(on both sides) are the one's delaying the settlement of the matter.
Anyone suggesting Israel should be wiped out of the land is further provoking the matter.
Anyone who wishes Israel to return back to the 1947 boundary is been unfair to them too.

The Palestinians and their Arab brothers initiated the attacks in 1947 with the aim of wiping Israel off. If they had succeeded, Israel will have been no more. Since, they lost the war, Israel knew that had to strengthen themselves further by taking up more lands. This has been their strategy ever since.

Negotiations have been ongoing for long with the Palestinians offered many good deals which they usually rejected because they believed one day, they will evict Israel. Therefore, once in a while, the Arabs together with the Palestinians will attack again believing they will defeat Israel and wipe them off but they always fail and end up losing more territories to Israel. Then the Palestinians will start crying and demanding that Israel return the new lands that they've taking from them. The question one should ask the Palestinians is this.
1. What should be your punishment if you attack Israel with the aim of wiping them off and you fail?
A) Nothing
B) Lose some lands
C) Israel should in turn wipe you off or drive you away.

2. Why did you reject many times the two state solution when you had a bigger land than what you have today?

3. Knowing that Israel won't go back to the best offer you ever had back in the days, why not accept the new offer of a two state solution and carry on with it?

#. Palestinians are descendants of the neighbouring countries to Israel and have a place to go in a worst scenario but Israel have no where else to go.

#Israel were killed and dispersed by many empires that ruled their land. Most of them ran to Europe and enjoyed relative peace until antisemitism started in Europe and they were once again killed in genocidal proportion that forced them to think back home.
Now they're home but those who dominated their land while the majority were away don't want them alive. If you were in their shoes, what will you do?
