He said humanitarian corridors must be opened to allow for the supply of food, water, fuel and other needs. Electricity must also be restored to the people of Gaza.

Ramaphosa said they were also concerned that the conflict may spill over into the Middle East and drag other countries in the region.

The British Government, after the fall of the Ottoman Empire took control of the land which is today known as Israel and Palestine.

As of the time when the British govt took over the said land, it was actually dominated by the Arabs as majority and Jews as minority with other ethnic groups too, though in the minority.

The Jews were scattered all over the world without a place to call their permanent home. And many Jews were facing persecution in Europe then.

By 1917, Sir Arthur Balfour who was the British foreign secretary in connivance with the British high authority decided that the Jews should have a permanent home of their own.

Then a declaration was made that brought all Jews from different places to that land.

Through the British government assistance, systematic decimation was carried out by the Israelis and actively supported by the British government against the Arabs untill 1948 when the state of Israel was formed.

That sole declaration that brought the Jews and Arabs into conflict till date in what is now known as the Palestine-Israel conflict is called the Balfour's declaration.
