By now it should have been crystal clear that this B.A.T government is clueless. If they weren't, then the proof of a positive trend in the Economy should have been very clearly visible by now because all the tools are available... but na e go better still dey operate.

Vision101:
Every Nigerian is so obsessed with the rate of dollar. The reason is because we are a consumption economy. Otherwise a higher dollar rate is good for a production economy.

We only think of how to use petrodollar to import finished goods consume and live big.

Are there no economic opportunities in a high exchange rate?

You are right, it’s a sad reality. But what infrastructures do we have in place that encourages production? Is it electricity? Loans or what? Honestly, it will take a genius and an honest person to raise Nigeria from the dust, and most if not all of these current politicians are neither of both.

Nigeria been a producing economy is the solution to all this dollars rising everyday and naira losing value...you can't be importing and be a consuming nation and you expect naira to have value and be strengthened against the dollars...dollars must keep on rising

growing up as a kid, when i got to understand there was a currency called dollar, it was being exchanged at 250 naira/ 270 naira to a dollar by those aboki. I remember a relation once sent us 100 dollar and what we got in exchange for that was 25k. and we were all happy cos the money went round everybody in the house. with joy on our face. that was during PDP. here now look at APC, THINGS ARE NOW WORSE

Grandstar, remember this your post below in July when we had a riveting discussion in July in this thread below? How competent is the CBN so far, and how has inflation been arrested so far 4 months after??
https://www.nairaland.com/7769524/620-per-litre-isnt-what/13#124544003

Gerrard59, on one of your points/axioms, I completely yield today 18/10/2023💯. Truly and evidently you can NEVER lose betting against Nigeria true true. I exchanged some of my dollar stash a day before Cardoso lifted the ban on 43items. I still had some sort of optimism that despite the fact that I knew/know the guy is a dud, I thought he would still whip up some market sentiment that would create FUD driving the rate down a bit for like a month. I no know say he go pour petrol inside fire. I exchanged it at 1030, and less than a week later we are at 1070/1075 with 1200 very likely by next week. Smh

Presently, things are a bit disappointing. Anyways, these are still early days

I also sense Tinubu may be standing in his way.

Note: At the time of my argument in July, I had no clue the foreign reserves were disgraceful low at around $4bn. This is less than a month of imports cover while it is recommeded for a country to have at least 3 months worth in their foreign reserves.

The easiest option now is to approach the IMF.
