What a silly statement
How come Nigeria is worse than Venezuela and Zimbabwe after removing Subsidy?

The problem is not even Subsidy but mismanagement of funds. What happened to diesel and kerosene subsidies removed years ago?

Peter Obi would have managed resources better. He has the records already.
Atiku wasn't the best but far better than the so called Lagos Master Strategist.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence obviously.

Thesame easy route that left fuel at 85 naira? dolar at 216? and rice at 8000 naira?

ElSudani:

If either of them had become president they would have taken the easy route and continued the fuel subsidy and Nigeria would have ended up like Venezuela.

Yep, the subsidy was a Greek gift. The exchange rate problem did not start with Tinubu unless if you see it from the prisms of partisan politics. Unfortunately this is the lens through which most of you see from.

If you can back up your point with facts that will be appreciated, it is time for Nigerians who are bearing the burden of miscalculated economic policies to think deep before profering opinions on such as this could encourage policy makers to continue in their horrendous path.

Both of them have criticized the removal based on political expediency rather than the overall development and restructuring of the economy.
Nigeria was unable to sustain the subsidy, there was no money to continue without completely wrecking the economy.
What are your own solutions? What do you think the government should have done?

The reason some yorubas like myself rooted for obi was because of his prudency and shrewdness in management of public affairs and finance.
At this critical point when we need to shore up our dwindling finance, Obi would never have appointed 48ministers, he would never have budget have approved new cars for NASS members.

The worst mistake Tinubu made was removing fuel subsidy when there's no working refinery in the country. Importation of refined oil products alone can drain our FX. But Tinubu being very stup!d and demented decided to remove the subsidy anyways. If we had working refineries in Nigeria, stabilizing the price of petroleum products would be much easier thereby stabilizing our economy.

Now the rising cost of transportation is dangerously dealing with our economy.

What are your own solutions? What do you think the government should have done?

Do you know that we are still subsidising imported petrol? That negates the much fanfare on subsidy removal. Subsidy removal means that the country will be buying the product plus whatever cost from transport and distribution, but that's not happening. The economic team fail woefully when they made the premature move of subsidy removal without substantial domestic refining thus putting undue pressure on the currency/economy.

At the beginning of the this month, one naira was equal to £1225 but now is £1325. You may be wondering how does that effects you, remember you import virtually 100% of all the cost of production in the only commodity that you take to international market.
We are waiting on Dangote refinery, if Nigeria doesn't start refining before January 2024, £1 will be over 1500 naira, is not prediction, it is mathematics. numbers don't lie.
With those points, I hope I have been able to show you that the Nigerian's current economic situation is as a result of hasty decision. When you are handling a complex project, give in to deep thinking which involves asking simple questions nicely, you will be amazed how much you can accomplish when you ask nicely and politely.

I was one of PO's cheerleaders when he was governor because I liked his prudent, program based approach to governance. However, I didn't support his presidential bid because I don't believe that anyone no matter how competent will be able to dig us out of the hole we have found ourselves.

We need fundamental structural and even constitutional reforms to surmount the challenges we face. I hope to be proven wrong but this is just the beginning of our troubles. If and when a) Ukraine and Russia get tired of killing each other and b)Saudi Arabia is able to extract the security guarantees it needs from the USA, oil prices will crash, That is when our real crises will actually begin.

It is just that most of that 60% are fixed costs like civil service salaries. Some of the headline making expenses that cause the outrage are not that consequential, they are just insensitive. So Obi might do marginally better but it will take a long time to unfvck the mess that Mumuharri has created.

Explain where and how the subsidies are being paid so Nigerians can understand rather than parroting what you heard on the streets.

It's simple now, every other product that is not subsidized are going up like wildfire but petrol is still being stagnant

You are bothering yourself by responding to an APC bot.
A robot cannot think outside of its set parameters.
An Apc bot cannot think for itself but relies on the current position of its leaders.

People that pushed for war in Niger suddenly started praising Tinubu for avoiding war.
Know this and know peace.
You can never reason with a Apc bot except it fits its narrative at that particular moment

Not just civil service, it would have been better if it were mainly civil service. Go close and you'll be shocked at the wastage going on in the name of running government.
That's why they fight to death to grab power.

The current Bubu V2 contributed 50% of Bubu V1 cabinets and ran the government. He even bragged it's his turn and will continue the status quo.

Appointing more than 40 ministers and numerous appointments under this bleeding economy 🙄

This right here is why I believe Nigeria is cursed. When oil prices are high, they tell us why subsidy on refined fuel is unsustainable. Why oil prices crash, they tell us that government doesn't have enough money to function. So head or tail, we are bleeped. Good or bad, we are bleeped. This is confusing. Nigeria's economy is now on a free fall. Everything is collapsing before our eyes. Dollar rate has crossed the 1000 mark and is steadily climbing towards 2000/$. Millions of businesses both big, medium and small are either closing down or struggling to survive. Fuel is now 620 per liter yet subsidy is being paid.

There is absolutely no hope in Nigeria that things will improve any time soon! In other words, there is hopelessness!!

This brings me to the question of what if.
What if Peter Obi or Atiku Abubarkar had become president instead of Tinubu, would Nigeria have turned out this way?

At what point will Tinubu admit he has failed? Or would he continue to use propaganda to buy time even when there is no hope ahead?

Tinubu is useless period, coupled with the people's mandate he stole, God is not asleep

For me I still have a little believe in democracy,we are only bereft of leaders who are ingenious , sincere and some technical nous on how to change the status quo of our country from compnsuption to a producing nation, then half of our problems is solved.

We need a benevolent dictator whose personal lifestyle and values inspire confidence among the masses, which is almost impossible to get now. Our military is completely useless now. Most generals in any reasonable post are billionaires from corruption. The mid ranks among the senior cadre are also useless and corrupt, doing unprintable things for 'good posting' and connections, so they too can be in a position to amass wealth. The decay is system wide and holistic. Nigeria is bleeped.

It is not like the earlier days when some 'righteous' majors or Lt Colonels United by a common vision and common values can rally their men into action based on shared ideals. Now the only prevalent ideal is to 'share money'. That's what got a useless bastard like Tinubu there.

Look at Peter Obi and ask yourself how many of his commissioners and other political appointees during his spell as governor rallied around him during his presidential campaign. They didn't because they know there would be no money to share. Unlike the idiots who Mass around Tinubu claiming to be his beneficiaries that he 'made'.

I now sadly acknowledge that Nigeria's severely compromised and damaged system would never allow good men take charge. Obi isn't the 'goodest' man in Nigeria, but trust me, he is the goodest man in the entire Nigerian political class across tribal lines. And I know exactly what I am saying. But the system is damaged beyond repair; compromised beyond redemption, so people like him stand no chance. It is a miracle and a testament to what he is made of that he came this far.

Look, at this rate, nothing can save us except a revolution - could be a war or whatever - that would leave sorrow, tears and blood in its wake. Nobody prays for that. But whatever country that results from that situation would be better off than this nonsense we are enduring as a country now. It would be like a phoenix rising from its ashes, refreshed.

Peaceful change is impossible as it stands, so you know the only alternative to that.
