That Day Saliba was my MOTM followed by Rice and then Martinelli. Keeping Halland inactive that day was no mean feat at all. He practically married Halland all through the match
Lol, the thing is that for other defenders it's a difficult to keep Haaland inactive but for Saliba, I no just know the jazz him deh use. grin

Did you know that since Haaland came to England, it's only 3 Matches in which he hadn't had a shot at all? And guess which team had two of those 3 matches — Arsenal. (One in community shield and the other in this recent 1-0 win) and both featured Saliba grin

Though, it must be said that the other match In which he had shots, he had Kdb by his side. And it even took him until second half to muster his first shot that day. grin

Maybe, Haaland needs his Kdb before he'll do anything against Saliba if not.. grin

While we don't and should not compare Havertz to Odegaard, Havertz to me have played better in midfield. He has been very good in marking spaces and blocking opposition passing lanes. That job is not easy. Rice struggled a bit playing there against City and only improved in the second half when Martinelli came on.
grin grin grin grin

Thank goodness you said "to you". Probably it's just your personal bias speaking. grin

There's a reason all fans and pundits are asking questions about Havertz influence in arsenal. And there's a big reason he was dropped against Everton, spurs and Man city.

Nobody is comparing him to Odegaard but I'm just pointing the fact that the soft landing you're doing for him so as to give reasons why he doesn't score or assist, Odegaard was doing it 10x last season and he's still doing it now yet he still scored, was creative and assists when necessary.

Rice didn't struggle against Man City especially in that first half. In fact, he was the best player alongside our two CBs that day. His other two Midfielders (Odegaard and Jorginho) were really docile. If Rice didn't turn up that first half, our Midfield would have been overrun. Maybe you're mistaking Rice for Odegaard because it was actually Odegaard that stepped up in the 2nd half

Dino is in Westham now buying well in Europe while saliba is top 3 cb in the league

I didn't say Rice didn't play well but rather that he did not get his groove until the second half. Man City actually controlled the midfield in the first half.
If all our players are fit, Havertz won't be starting, that's a fact.
But when he is going to play, I prefer him in midfield.

Omorr, Saliba over tried. How we got that gem for cheap naim dey burst my head.
Since Saliba and Gabriel Pair started again, we've been a cohesive unit once more. I just hope for whatever reasons they shouldn't be disbanded again(bar injury).

But ehhh, Saliba and Saka dey make Roland be like one proud father when he sees both of his sons be a national treasure for always accomplishing different milestone.

He hyped those two when nobody knew them nor wasn't really sure they'll turn out this good. Yet they didn't just turn out good, they exceeded expectations cheesy

If he did we would have dominated the first half. Lewis and Bernardo were controlling the midfield as Kovacic was pressing. When Kovacic dropped deeper for fear of red card that was when Rice found his mojo.

Lol.... We have three Midfielders ( Odegaard Rice and Jorginho) and out of the three Rice was the one that played very very well with the other two not really excellent in the first half but you think just ONLY Rice's effort would be enough for us to dominate a Man city's Midfield coached by Guardiola. It's not as if those Man city's Midfield were even excellent sef with the way you're making it sound, it was just more of our duo in Odegaard and Jorginho being underwhelming. Odegaard with his rushed passes and hasty decisions while Jorginho with his safe passes and recycling.

The only reason why you felt Rice found his mojo is simply because others found their mojo in the second half and played up to his level. It's that simple.

Meanwhile, I never knew Rice was the second coming of Xavi grin

I still insist, Rice game against Man city Is the best game he had played in an arsenal shirt so far. If you watch him against Man u (which was actually his best game before this one), then you'll know the kind of quality he exuded that day against Man city.

It could be his best game but it was the second half that made it so. It's not like he was poor in the first half but he really struggled to stamp his feet like he usually does.

When Rice began dominating the game in the second half you saw how we pegged Man City back like they were Stoke City. At a point it allowed Tomi (playing where Rice was) to even take a high line which led to the goal.

By the way I am not arguing that Rice shouldn't start (God forbid), all I am saying is that no 8 role on the left which is a hybrid of DM and AM or simply a LCM is not an easy role.

Lol, how can you agree Rice played his best game against Man city but claim it was only second half that made it so?

The only player presently in arsenal who can make a second half game his overall best game is Havertz and that's because the bar he's set so far is too low. Why you dey talk like say you no know Rice? It's just surprising that na only you dey see say Rice no really play well against Man city in the first half

Moreover, Nobody says it's an easy role but as a top club what we wanted is someone who can replicate and even better what Xhaka did for us last season. So far, Rice did it in one match (and there was no excuses) more than Havertz whom you've been writing epistles on just to defend him. grin

Because of this matter, I gatz scroll back to the pages of this thread when we played that match to see if really guys here praised/acknowledged Rice during that first half and I wasn't surprised as I saw praises from you guys acknowledging him. Even Iamoyin.damola that was skeptical about his signing and fee praised him that first half.

But but according to our dear Spy, he really didn't stamp his foot grin

You know match is by Saturday and most of our players will be coming in Wednesday and Thursday. They'll need to rest. Then Fri, they'll head up to Stamford bridge and that's where they will train

DaveP made same statement and we argued on it recently. To me, he made the best decision. Martinelli was well positioned so why make things complicated.

Personally to me, Havertz made the best decision. The way the ball dropped and how Ake have already covered Havertz path to goal or dribble, it'll be very difficult for him to make that attempt on goal and if he does, Heavens know say I for insult am.

Best bet was hold the ball up and lay it perfectly for an onrushing player for a curler (or R2). That he did perfectly (he even laid it on Martinelli right feet sef, so that he doesn't need an extra touch). It's up to Martinelli now to execute the shot/curler perfectly, which to me he didn't do perfectly but then he was lucky with the deflection.

I'm still saying it, Martinelli should master that out of the box curler very well. Most wingers nowadays are known for that.

What I meant by the bolded is that Tomi came in as a left back and Rice was playing on the left. During the second half, Tomi was quite comfortable playing high up the pitch, this was possible because Rice dominated that side of the pitch from midfield to defense.

And let me reiterate that I did not say Rice was poor in that first half. Rather I said his second half was better than his first half performance. There could be several reasons for this, and I have attributed it to the difficulty playing that role.

They won't argue that the lay off from Havertz ensured that their ticket didn't cut.

VanPersie and Podolski are the two lefties I can bank on to score that kind of ball. What if Havertz had attempted to shoot but spotted Martinelli? What if the whole buildup and goal was a training move? But we must sha bash Havertz.
