Playing that no8 is not best for Rice. He is a player that wants the ball not mark spaces. Jorginho affected Odegaard not Rice.

Odegaard needed a dominant DM who can hold the ball and drag players away. Without Partey or Rice, Odegaard will struggle.
With this docile Jorginho against press and compact Chelsea? Anybody will struggle in No8. What's amazing is how Rice still showed himself even with two poor Midfielders.

If Odegaard and Jorginho was poor in the first half against Man city, tonight they were 5 times poorer. It's that bad
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Lush100(m): 8:35pm On Oct 21, 2023
Jorginho is not able to beat the press.

Rice can beat press.
Jorginho hold unto the ball for too long.
And passes back.when pressed.

Poch must have watched our game and i was already worried with his line up witu jorginho at the base.

Omo rice dey work oh.

If partey had started chelsea would have been caught out.

I prefer martinelli to start from the bench.
Trossard has more experience than him.
Arteta should have played jesus and nketiah together once that noticed that midfield that poch fielded.
So that jesus will help by going deep into midfield breaking up the midfield structure of chelsea and then laying ball for nketiah and or saka.
Saka too is not fully fit.
Jorginho is having problem press and if saka is not fully fit i will say dont start jorginho.
Arteta has to rotate to keep his key player fit.
He can start jorginho in ucl and put jesus on the right and Nketiah in middle.
ESR can start that game too

It very likely partey was not match fit.
But i was surprised that Tomi did well in the inverted role even at 2-0 down. If he is more techincal what a player he would be.
Harvetz is growing into the game.
By tue time his confidence is fully on, he will add goals to.his game.
He made some impact.
Poch did his homework well.

I'm sure arteta will get it right in the return leg.
Arteta shoulg give a run of games to ESR he is match rusty.
@Jodera welcome back.
And may God bless your well.being and may your pocket be replenished in jesus name.

He his hand denied a clear scoring opportunity, that was what was penalised

Not about the banters before the match, but it's about your 1 billion team that couldn't maintain the 2 goals lead even after 75 mins when many of you already started celebrating victory...only for your team to now start begging for a draw at the last minutes... even José Mourinho the wall builder/bus parker will marvel at how all your players became thick wall/bus parker and professional time wasters. grin
Begging for draw? Arsenal ran back after they scored the 2nd goal. You could notice the urgency Chelsea started playing afterwards.

I knew that was their goal immediately they brought in James for Palmer.

I wanted a win, and like many already pointed out; some mistakes here and there and with some players having an off days especially Jorg who wasn't sure if he is still a Chelsea player or an Arsenal player, but cancelling 2 goals lead after 75mins is enough consolation for me.

Really?? Yet your manager replaced an attacker with a defender at 84th mins.

Go back and watch the replay from the 75th to the end.... On slow motion. cheesy
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Lush100(m): 8:52pm On Oct 21, 2023
The ref didn't understand the state of play. While it was an attacking phase . Bith players went to the ball with their head.
Palmer reached their first and noded the ball to saliba arm.
The ball was going wide.

He shouldn't have given a penalty.
Even palmer who jumped for thr ball his arm were outstretched.

Ref don't understand how to officiate.
It is a different matter if Palmer headed the ball towards goal and saliba tried blocking the ball but it then hit his hand ( still some distance from the headed ball)

Anyway we move.

This is the truth, we were poor today and only we lucky the guys responded to the late changes in tactics.

On the day we played poorly, Chelsea couldn’t finish a 2 goal lead.

Alaye we give u 2 goal head start still you couldn't get it done..

We did not start playing until the 70th minute
pretty much the last quarter of the game with you still having a 2-0 head start..

You ended the game with theatrics of time wasting. You spent the final 20 minutes hugging the grass at home and begging for a draw..
i have said it b4 and i will keep saying it.
arsenal fans are the dumbest creatures on earth.
see reasoning.......

u didnt play until 70th minute?
in that case, we too stoped playing at the 70th minute.

Odegaard needs to start imposing himself when opposing tactics work against him, he has the quality to do that.

Saka had a horrible game but when it mattered, he imposed himself and forced the issue with that intelligent play for the assist. Odegaard no even wan try anything different. He kept running into cluttered space which was exactly what Poch wanted.

Jorg did not help matters with his constant back passing which ensured Chelsea either stayed compact or reset their press formation.

Omo if we had lost the match yesterday I wouldn't have forgiven Arteta for anything .

I got off the plane like 2 and half hours before kickoff , had to rush down to my house , arrange food chop , do one or two running around , renew my DSTV sub and deny myself much deserved rest . Only for the match to start make Raya dey carry ball give opponent , A clearly unfit Saka losing the ball everytime, Odegaard.finding it difficult to express himself, our midfield turning to express and Zinchencko not being able to dictate our play from the back like he always did. The less said about Jorginho and his sideways passes when he should playing forward passes , the better .

I must say Rice is the player we thought he was when we were breaking our transfer record for him.

It wasn't the best of our performance in recent times but I will take the draw. We still remain unbeaten and that certainly counts for something . It will definitely give the team something to play for even when we are having a tough patch in a game

We started playing better when Rice dropped to DM and Havertz took the 8 position. Havertz simply kept Enzo and Caicedo on lock which allowed the team to flow

I won't blame Odegaard. It's hard to play when the opposition tactics is targeted at you. Chelsea overloaded the right side that was why we had to rely more on Martinelli. The overload on the right made it difficult for both Saka and Odegaard. What both needed was a DM who can hold the ball and pull out the press. Rice came into DM and did just that. If Odegaard was still in the pitch then he would have made his mark just as Saka later did.

I was in between a zoom meeting and watching the match, the people I was doing meeting with sef collect small small as I was angry with the way the match was going
I wanted more from the match but with that nonsense we played draw was fair
The annoying thing is the opposition were only trying to frustrate and stop our play their first goal was a PK I can debate and second was a fluke that caught our keeper out of line
They deserve a draw for their bravery sha

Yeah, the commentator kept on harping on it that it was a clear penalty . But then arsenal didn't need to depend on penalty to get something out of the game and I love it !

Even at our lowest we still dey cause enemies pains ; severe pains

They are currently I'm that face we were under Emery season. When u think u are going to pick up steam with a run of good games and winning streak ; then everything comes back crashing down grin.

I've been there before , I undertand their pain; but I don't share their pain at the moment 😂.

Can we try Partey in that no8 cuz I'm okay with Rice playing that DM Position and moreover Partey have shot precision(at least the number of times I've seen him take shot they were accurate), nice spliting passes, some other offensive abilities.

What are your takes on this?

Lol, Odegaard simply just gave up. That was really shocking to be honest. The last two seasons consecutively, you'll see Odegaard trying to make things happen even dropping deep and demanding for the ball. Yesterday, he just wasn't interested. The second half was even worse. I didn't even see him at all. At least Jorginho will play back and form activity that he wants to tackle just for camera to catch him.... But Odegaard?, He just ghosted. It's shocking to say it.

Is it fatigue? undecided
