Visitor visa can't be converted. As the name implies, it's a visitor visa. It is not convertible. If not, people will be finding that as easy route.

Once your visa expires, you have to return to your country and apply for any other visa. You can't convert visitor visa. And if you over stay, that's another gbese. They might ban the person for a number of years from applying for any visa.

Accommodation depends on your taste. There is something for everyone. Let's say 600Reis per month upwards to get a decent place. You can get cheaper in the favelas and yes they are safe.

Remember when you come to Brazil, the first thing you have to do is learn the language. Sao I suggest you spend the first 3 months in a Portuguese school. It's free. But keep enough money to take care of you while you get settled.

Food is cheap. You can't be hungry in Brazil. But budget enough money because you are coming to a strange land.

In any active account, money is moved more or less everyday and sometimes more than that nce a day to remain zero. Therefore it is never the balance being checked and if you have a huge balance with no activity, the account will be freezed
