You will soon see the way the cost of palm oil will arise soon. Instead of our leaders in Nigeria to plant much oil trees, they will never do that but only to embezzled the treasury they want. Awon Ika gbogbo (very wicked set of people) |

Hope we will not start buying palm oil costlier, because an average business man will prefer to collect the money in forex thereby exporting everything leaving the adulterated ones to be sold costlier again, they did it with beans years back |

This is exactly the reason I don't want to be identified as an igbo person. You guys have developed such an annoying victim mentality and its going to lead to more oppression of the igbo tribe. successmatters: |

iamjavadem:It can be used for anything with drivable engine. Alot of governments and businessmen around the world just want to make us believe that we cannot do or live without petrol because they are making themselves richer and richer everyday. Imagine what they would think about this idea of running automobiles with palm oil. the idea that might put them out of business. Do you think they will like this idea? |

I am more concerned about the impact on food security. When most of the available land is used to plant palm trees for commercial fuel, Where will they plant other food crops? |

successmatters:defeatist and victim mentality is your greatest undoing as a tribe and it will keep taking you people backward till you change. Fact. Edo state produces more palm oil than the entire five south eastern states. |

sonnie10:Good observations. But There are vast lands for the platattions of vast palm oil trees. Millions of acres of lands on this planet have not being cultivated. We managed to have lands to plant cocoa for coffee, plant coca for cocaine. Poppy for heroin Tea and tobbaco. These things are not really benefitial (not food) to many people yet we have lands to plant them. |

adecz:That is where visionary leaders come in. You cannot multiply your oil reserves manually, but you can increase your palm oil production by conscious human efforts. Nigeria have a vast untapped land in the north. Biological enhance seedlings that can survive in Savannah regions can be developed and propagated there. This will lead to an increase in palm oil production. But our leaders prefer to keep sambisa in it's current condition; as an enclave for terrorists, thereby bringing them huge returns through their so called fight against terrorism. |

If not for the foolishness of Nigeria's government there's no way Indonesia and Malaysia would have overtaken Nigeria as world's largest exporter of palm oil,a position she comfortably occupied with no nation seeing her back. But still Nigeria is the world's largest producer and exporter of Palm Kernel Oil(PKO), and her red palm oil production capacity and volume are steadily increasing, thanks to renewed focus on oil palm cultivation. Nigeria should be overtaking Indonesia now because Indonesia banned palm oil exports due to scarcity of palm oil in their domestic market, last year. Despite Indonesia being touted as the largest exporter, Nigeria's palm oil has better quality of taste, nutritional richness and most importantly very low Fatty Acids content (FA). This is due to soil and climatic factors on both continents of Africa and Asia. If only Government can pump more effort than they are currently doing, nothing will stop Nigeria reclaiming her historical position in the red palm oil trade. |
