Ali Ndume, the senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, has stated that the Nigerian Navy already signed and sealed an order for the purchase of a presidential yacht.

The senator further said that the idea of purchasing a yacht was not an initiative of the current federal government, saying the proposal had been approved as part of the 2023 appropriation bill signed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He stated this while appearing on Arise News’ popular programme, The Morning Show, on Friday.

The lawmaker made this remark in response to the agitation by many Nigerians that the government’s intention to acquire a luxury yacht was insensitive to the plights of Nigerians, whom the president had consistently asked to make sacrifices following his government’s removal of fuel subsidies.

“The navy also clarified that it is not a new budget. And even the House of Representatives moved the budget to the student loans. The deal for the yacht has been agreed, signed and delivered but not paid for,” he said.

Tinubu had submitted a supplementary budget to the national assembly with a component of N5 billion allocation for a yacht. The allocation for a yacht has, however, been merged with the allocation for student loans, thereby increasing the student loan funding from N5 billion to N10 billion.

CLAIM: The provision for a presidential yacht was not an idea of President Tinubu. It was under the Nigerian Navy’s 2023 budget and it was passed by the last Senate.

VERIFICATION: Buhari signed the 2023 appropriation bill into law on January 3, 2023, with a one-year life cycle. FIJ examined the said budget as available on the National Budget Office’s website.

Nigerian Navy, being a component of the Ministry of Defence, has its total budgetary proposals captured in the ministry’s budget.

The navy was allocated N189,790,615,183 for both recurrent and capital expenditures for the year. This includes N22,768,880,735 for overhead cost, N136,474,920,215 for recurrent expenditure and N53,315,694,968 for capital expenditure.

With all the line items clearly stated in the budget, including the procurement of certain security equipment and construction of various amenities, there is nowhere a yacht was mentioned directly or indirectly as something the navy intended to procure.

CONCLUSION: The navy didn’t include a yacht in its 2023 budget.

VERDICT: The claim that the procurement of a yacht had already been stated in the navy’s budget for 2023 fiscal year is false.

But must the Tinubu administration go along with the initiative even if it was the last government that made provision for it in the budget?

That was how he impulsively removed fuel subsidy without doing the needful and later blamed it on the previous government for not making budgetary provision for it

Who does not know this govt is a lying one

Bayo Onanuga claimed the yacht is an operational vessel with high tech features for high profile operation and not a yacht
Temitope Ajayi claimed the yacht is for the navy and only they know why they need a yacht
Who among the two is lying now
Answer: All of the above

Auto pilot embezzlements, bold frivolous criminalities and robbery are the characteristics of a failed state.

Once the Judiciary which is said to be the last hope of a nation falls into the hands of criminals jurists , then it is over.

Our nation as it stands today officially has
An executive certificate forger and identity thief as president
Criminal judges holding the ace in the highest court of the land
Criminal legislature.

What exactly are you expecting?

The biggest calamity that befell Nigeria is the lack of strong and independent institutions.

Why should these crooks in government compel the Navy to lie and defend their leadership rascality?

I'm still surprised people are surprised with what Tinubu is doing with Nigeria money spending recklessly, during the campaign when his supporters were praising Tinubu with all manner of attributes.

I just kept on wondering if it was the same Tinubu I knew that governed Lagos from 1999-2007 or another Tinubu that I don't know about.

Tinubu's government was a jamboree government now, he made niteshift coliseum very popular then with Osoba, person who used G-wagon and more than 50 vehicles as convoy while his deputy used a Peugeot 505 evolution with just 2 escort vehicles, her glass was not even tinted, he intimidated the woman till he chased her out of office...

Lagos was a dust bin, from Oshodi, mushin, Idi-oro to mile 12 and so on. I can go on and on.

Now na Sidon look mode I just dey, I did all my best to warn people about him and stop him from getting there, but now little or nothing can be done anymore, I'm only surprised some people are surprised

That is the structure of criminality Peter Obi was talking about. In trying to cut this administration some slack, they go on public platforms to alter the truth, while thinking everyone is foolish like they.

Senator Ali Ndume was on Arise TV morning showing today, trying desperately to lie his way out. He even said Innoson doesn't manufacture vehicles in Nigeria that what he does is car assembly when asked why the national assembly don't use made in Nigeria vehicles. Such magnitude of ignorance for a Nigerian senator is expected. Many of them are outrightly senseless in the senate.

I was even surprised the budgetary allocation for presidential fleet of cars doesn't even pinpoint the brand of cars to be purchased. Ali Ndume himself confirmed it. grin and he boldly said, it is not the business of the senate to know what vehicle would be purchased with the approved budget. Can you imagine the retorts of a Nigerian senator on public TV network?

Honestly, the way forward for Nigeria is bleak with these crop of leaders @ the helm.

NNS Amarya was the Presidential Yatcht in the Navy probably must have been decommissioned. It is the platform that the President use to review Sea-going Assets of the Nigerian Navy. As at the last check, NNS Amary was no longer seaworthy and it's only justified that the Navy wants to replace it as the Navy has embarked on aggressive acquisition of platforms since return to democracy to take back the Sea and backwaters so as to ensure her dominance and presence at sea.
