One profound thing I found relating to the show. While it might be easily relegated to rituals, selling soul to the devil if we were looking at it from a Nigerian societal perspective, it goes way beyond more than that and more on the innate life choices made by man.

While each death could have been much less violent than what Death dished out (except Lenore's) depending on their choices, it clearly shows the singularity of how a decision sways future events.

Arthur Pym's final decision hammers this point the more. Just reinforces the notion that "each person ALWAYS has a choice" in the end.

Details like these are the reasons I tell people to watch AOT at least 2 or 3 times...

You cannot appreciate the show well if you haven't seen it like thrice.

I saw it several times but didn't notice this till someone pointed it out on twitter

The attention to detail man...

It will be very hard for any show to ever beat Attack on Titan for me

On the choices, it shows the consequences of choices made decades ago...

How a simple choice they made then shaped their lives and their generation.

At that time, they had overlooked it...or rather underestimated it's consequences...

Or how much suffering those consequences would bring forth to them and their loved ones...

The only issue to me at that point is that because they didn't fully understand how serious that choice was, you could argue that they were manipulated...

You could argue they made an innocent decision because at that point, despite what they experienced, they never fully believed the woman they met that night. It was a strange encounter to them...

The Fall of The House of Usher.....9.5/10

This is probably the best TV show of the year. It chronicles the Rise and Fall of the Usher Family and damn chilly adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's work.

The show is a work of art. Superb acting, great storytelling, rich dialogue and smooth poetry that got you thinking. One of the best cinematography I've seen all year round and arguably the best in a TV show this year. Great work with their lighting and even the CGI/makeup. Gripping sound score to drive home the feel and atmosphere of each scene. Premium tier costume design.

Each character had their time to shine and get an understanding of the main faces. Carla Gugino as Verna aka Death, Bruce Kenwood as stonecold Roderick and Mary McDonnell as Madeline with survivor instinct were perfect as the leads of this show.
Zach Gilford and Willa Fitzgerald were superb as young Roderick and Madeline. Kate Siegel and Rahul Kohli also did an impressive job. Special kudos to Mark Hamill as the Pym Reaper.

It's a story of life, cause and effect, consequences, frivolity, depravity, despair, deception, cruelty, vanity, greed, lust, power, envy and the inevitable — Death. It touches on almost all human emotions, dispositions and sins with a unique masterful touch.

The ending perfectly brings to life that Lovecraftian feel of horror Edgar Allan Poe was known for. The feeling of "fear", "despair" and "powerlessness" that you've no control over, because you're at the mercy of a "Higher Power"— in this case, Death! A perfect symbiotic relationship between realism and fantasy. It's a perfect commentary on most facets of life using the Usher Family as a case study.
The finale is basically a rich delivery of Poetic Justice.

It's a show to slowly watch, understand and savour it's themes and deeper meanings. It's as always a thought provoking tale as I have come to expect from a Flanagan TV show. It's a horror TV series, through and through — not just the cliché gore and jumpscares you'd expect as is associated with the genre. This is more of a thought provoking Psychological horror thriller. Or you can call it Lovecraftian horror. And it's an undisputed Masterpiece.

Netflix has struck gold here and cooked an all time great, as I see this show becoming an all time classic in the years to come. It's that good.
This TV show surely rivals Midnight Mass in being the best from Mike Flanagan's body of work. This is the most prestigious work from Flanagan and it sure jostles to be the top dawg and crowning piece of his work.

Maybe you should watch The Haunting of Hill House. That is another masterpiece from Mikey

Just a short post addressing some things about the AOT ending

Eren wasn't trying to stop global war. He wanted freedom for himself and his friends, wanted his friends to live long lives, wanted to end the Titan curse and give Paradis a chance for a future.

By doing this he levelled the playing field as he stated himself. He knew that wars would not end forever, but at least it won't be an immediate One-sided slaughter. It would even take ages for the rest of the world to even develop enough to fight back and by then Paradis would have developed too.

People ignore this point and say Eren simply left things up to chance. Leveling the playing field is not leaving things up to chance. It is an insurance.

Eren's actions also brought an end to the Titan curse.

Even at the end credits, Paradis stood for thousands of years and even survived many wars if you watch carefully...

It was later on they got nuked. The reason for the wars aren't stated so we don't know if it has anything to do with their Titan history. But the message it passed across was that as long as humans exist, wars would continue. And it's been stated several times in the show before.

The end credits show that history would repeat itself but something new may be born and not necessarily Titans since the Boy entered the tree out of curiosity and with his dog, while Ymir entered the tree out of fear and being chased by dogs..

AOT doesn't just accept a "and peace reigned forever" ending. The author himself stated in an interview that he cannot do that as it finds it to be wishful thinking.

AOT ending has many layers of complexity if you interpret it

Most of the AOT ending critique of the manga was from the last conversation of Eren and Armin and people who didn't understand the meaning behind the final panels and simply took it as "Eren achieved nothing and everything is pointless"

That was genuinely a bad take as it ignored all the complexities, messages and themes of the AOT ending

I don't know why no one here is discussing the ending sef grin

I mean there are a million things to discuss about it

*Minor spoilers
I'm already thinking of writing a post about Zeke and Armin's conversation...

That conversation alone has so many things to dissect and discuss...

The latest episode of Rick and Morty (S7ep4) is one of the best episodes of the show in recent times.

The episode reminded of what attracted me to the show in the first place. They simply combined different controversial topics and made a compelling and well executed story out of it without getting anyone riled up.

Kudos to the writers.

Aot. 10/10

Its over now.

I'll definitely carve out time in the future one period to rewatch this master piece. I need to forget it then to enjoy it again.

Potential rewatch value. 10/10.

They were never manipulated. Their darkest desires was just put up on a platter for them to choose.
Roderick definitely knew what he was doing or what transpired after that night. They both just wanted to pretend that night didn't happen.

Besides who the fvvk wouldn't take that shit seriously especially how things went very "easy" for them just as Verna said would happen.

One simple fact that shows it was a personal choice and nothing to do with manipulation... The scene between Death and Arthur Pym. He refused her offer due to his principles despite knowing he would be fvvked. Man just knew he was fvvked either ways. Only the day of fvvkery could be postponed.

Even if Death didn't intervene they were going to do all those things they did. The difference is that, the police would have found the body. The Ushers would face resistance to taking over the company. They wouldn't get away with the pharmaceutical shït and experiments they got away with.
Even till death, none of the Ushers was convicted. That's the touch of Death's promise right there.

I'm tired of seeing all this gibberish clouding real tv series reviews, It's making this our once hallowed section chaotic.
Please whoever is in charge i am on my knees right now, create a seperate section for anime ardents, here has to strictly be for "real human tvseries lovers"

Distinction between Eren and Lelouch's plan

Similarities: both set themselves as the number one enemy of the world.

Differences:

They are different characters and fundamentally different goals.

Lelouch's plan was the best for the world he lived in...while Eren's plan was the best to fulfill Eren's selfish desires.

Eren's goal was never world peace. His goals were selfish. He admitted so himself that conflict won't end.

The AOT story itself doesn't agree with Eren's plan.

Eren himself admitted his plan was selfish and that he's an îdiot who gained great power and used it for selfish reasons.

So I'm not sure what the debate is here

Eren chose his own desires for freedom and for his friends to live long lives over the entire world...which killed 80% of the world...with the remaining 20% struggling to recover with plants, animals, sea creatures all destroyed.

But he did at least achieve his selfish desires.

On the other hand, the world benefitted from Lelouch's plan.

They are fundamentally different characters. I think that settles it
