Althoug I have to admit you are not completely wrong though. The "political class" (yes, we now A POLITICAL CLASS) is riding on the poverty and illiteracy of the majority to manipulate elections in their favour using ethnic, regional or religious sentiments. And who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to make life a little better for their loved ones, even if it means to japa.
But my major concern is that we seem to leave national development only to the very politicians we know are only there for personal gain. We do not need to protest or start a revolution. But we can just do our normal every day work and hustle here without becoming corrupt ourselves and helping each other starting from our immediate neighbourhood.
