Sorry to also barge into your room while you were barging into somebody's room but you also misspelt the word "barge" in your post.

It is not badge.

the nurses, doctors, IT, auditors and other skilled people from Nigeria that got jobs in Uk. Did they spend 10m . Study route is not the only japa route na

There something unique about earning in hard currency $€£.m than in Naira... You can make $100k dollars in one year abroad if you work hard that's like 90 million naira, But how long will it take you to make 10 million naira in Nigeria? The deal about moving abroad is that you can get paid in foreign currency and be rich in naira in less time than wasting time and skills working in Nigeria to get paid in Naira.

Make your riches on time and enjoy your life while u are still young.

You guys can never think of learning better skills?

Behaving like refuse scavengers all over the world. I'm not talking down on the skills you wrote there but considering the fact that 90% of people that considers japa are the graduates, putting up these skills is annoying.

Graduate should think above these.

You are the only one who has shown dignity in reasoning.

I mean, how would graduates with many years of experience in highly specialised disciplines of Engineering, Finance, Science, ICT. Suddenly embrace Plumbing, Carpentery and Tieing of Gele as a source of income just to continue living as refugees on a foreign land.

you are wrong there

in the west tradesmen are killing it

it is in nigeria that being an artisan has been completely bastardised - which is why nigerian artisans CANNOT make it abroad. and that goes for people who learn from them as well.

your average nigerian artisan has foundational competence and integrity gaps which he is able to get away with here. you cannot be doing halfassed work in obodo oyibo and client will continue to pay you.

But if u r in any African country with Nigerians... U will be fine infact u will make more money from the indigenous people sewing for them than fellow Nigerians.

torn cloths you sow it with needle or throw it away. The quality of their cloths too is better than ours in Nigeria. Rarely tears. For sizes you go buy your size , if it doesn’t fit well you wear it like that. I cant buy jeans of 40 dols and use 30 dols to slim it 😆. The last time i came to Nigeria I brought cloths to slim fit.

Make up artist and tying of Gele

- Baking

- Mechanic

- Carpentry

- Tiling

- Plumbing

- Bricks Laying

- Painting.

These will Serve as side hustle for you.

From this list only baking and makeup artist can serve as side hustle. The rest are highly regulated abroad and you need a license to do it. It cannot serve as a side hustle. They are full time jobs that may require 1 or 2 years of being an apprentice.

Well said.

You are wrong. There is money and there is job perception. The average okada rider in Lagos makes more than many graduates working in banks. But the perception of the work and the class of people that do the work where the issue it. If Nigerians really had a choice they wont do such kind of jobs. Lets not deceive ourselves. They can be proud of the money and what it can do back home but they are not proud of the jobs

Truck driving should be on that list. It's a hot cake in Canada and Australia.
thumbs man. Here in nigeria you as man/woman driving truck go be like say you be nothing but oversea's na hot cake you be. Two of my guys in europe (italy) spend like 10m visa, flight with additional close to 7m for house and others within 1year, after getting jobs cause they both hustle the job right here in nigeria through google. Currently men this guys are ball hard now earning like 10k euros to 20k a month.

Any Nigerian planning on going to the US and followed this advice is wasting his or her time, maybe baking or tying gele might yield you some tashere (chicken change) money. But you see all those construction jobs it is either you are in a union to be able to make good money, if it is a none union construction jobs the Latinos that have invaded America by the millions illegally from South and Central America have those on total lockdown that even white or black Americans can't even break through. Africans generally don't even do construction in the US except for mechanics, you will find a white man doing construction before you find an African. What construction can you do that Jose from Mexico, Guatemala or Honduras can't do 10x better.

To buttress the OP's point :
Things are not all that rosy for Nigerians staying overseas.
You would have to work hard and smart to survive.
You must learn high-demand skills abroad if you have the intention to travel to Canada, the USA, Europe, etc.
Developed countries do not emphasize certificates like Nigeria. Your employability depends on your level of expertise.
There is nothing like I got the job because of my uncle or other types of corrupt practices.
We know family relatives who had difficulties settling abroad because of a lack of digital skills or handwork.
We know someone was able to succeed through her catering skills.
She was able to open a big restaurant because she knew how to cook delicious Nigerian meals.

The following is the list of handwork to learn before leaving Nigeria;
Tailoring
Plait Braid and Weave Hair
Makeup Artistry
Barbing
Electrician
Heavy Machine Operator
Phone & Laptop Repair
Auto Mechanic
Plumbing
Furniture Making
Carpentry
Welding
Construction
Cooking & Catering
Interior Decoration
Car Rewiring
Mow Flowers
Window Installation Service
Auto Body Painting
Bro. The occupation I bolded on this list are not handiwork but are highly regulated professions e.g. Electrician. No one will give an electrician job to a non qualified person. If the house burns down due to a wiring error, insurance will declined payment and home owner may be left with a $500,000 debt and a burnt down house.

As per plumbing, water damage is extremely expensive to fix too.

Welding nko, the weld would be put through a weld inspection before the structure falls and kills someone.

car rewiring: another one that can cause serious expense to vehicle owner like the screenshot below. Nowadays, car wiring is extremely complex.

We can go on and on.

What's with Nigerians always advising others to learn menial skills before relocating?

What's wrong with us aspiring to be more like Indians who have taken over the tech industry where they reside? Higher pay, breaks the seeming glass ceiling, and the attendant social class makes it easier for your immigrant countrymen to be respected.

That is a very poor comparison because okada riding is a flat line . There is no upgrading or elevation. You are riding the same bike and earning the same money year in year out. It is a dead end that only looks good to the short term instant gratification seekers.
