Well, the UCWL in this context, is still wrong in their use of ENGLISH. "their past 31 matches" is more appropriate than "their last 31 matches" with "last" being the most recent and "past" being collective and/or last match(s). Little things can confuse a lot of people.

You are wrong. "Last" is the appropriate word. The stat is looking at their recent form (30 of 31).

its not everything you blame leaders. Illiteracy is really high in Nigeria
Guy 90% of Nigerians don't have a workable sense. That's why jungle justice thrive. Their sense of judgement and reasoning is very low and dependent of emotions and how they feel at the time.

Sometimes I see graduates reasoning like toddlers and living on the law of expediency I feel sad for them.

Our emotions doesn't balance our reasoning

‘English hard o’ — Nigerians blast UEFA after misunderstanding Oshoala post
Barcelona Femeni star Asisat Oshoala

It was a sad day for English comprehension as fans attacked the UWCL handle on social media after misunderstanding a post they made about Nigerian superstar Asisat Oshoala

Fans have erroneously come to the defence of Nigerian icon Asisat Oshoala after misunderstanding a post from the official X handle of the UEFA Women’s Champions League featuring the Barcelona Femeni star.

With the group stage of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League set to kick off, the UWCL handle celebrated reigning Champions Barcelona.

They made a post noting that the Blaugrana had an incredible record of scoring in 30 of their last 31 matches, using a picture of Oshoala as the featured image on the post.

The caption on the picture of Oshoala read Barcelona have only failed to score in one of their last 31 #UWCL matches, yet it still drew negative comments from fans of the Nigerian superstar, who rained insults in the comments.

According to the complainants, they were upset that the UWCL for using the Super Falcons legend to portray a ‘negative’ stat.

Nigerians lament lack of basic understanding over Oshoala post

The lack of understanding of the simple post caused shame to other onlookers who lamented the level of education in the country while wondering how the statement could have been misconstrued by so many people.

Others lamented the display of misreading as the reason why a popular test of English remains a blight on the Nigerian populace.

Despite the misunderstanding, fans will certainly be cheering on Oshoala as she locks horns with compatriot Christy Ucheibe when Barcelona take on Benfica in their opening game of this season’s UWCL.

RaySimran:
cool

That's characteristics of mob/herd mentality, they don't care to read and understand but would rather follow the bandwagon without a glimpse/glance on the subject matter.

Unfortunately, Nigerians displays' this alot both in real life and on social media space.
Mostly these days, anytime I am on social media I get pissed by contents coming from Nigeria. While the rest of the world are doing things that will help their societies, Nigerians are more interested in dumb things that don't add value to their growth. I can't be consuming nonsense, what we consume have a way of affecting us even if we think " it's just for entertainment " at least the entertainment should be balanced. So much dullness and dumb discussions on our social media. If it's not nudity, it's comedy about immorality or dumb reality shows, or dumb relationships, or dumb celebrity beefs, or runs girls or yahoo boys, or about fake money. Nothing to learn. I fear for the future kids of this nation. That's why 12 year olds are more interested in contesting for miss this miss that and not interested in things that actually add value to our society.

Not saying all these are that bad, but it is very bad when it is not balanced such that the nonsense things take cental position is our life. From morning till night that's the only things that keep popping from Nigeria, unless u switch to another country

The statement looks simple and harmless enough but the headless mob still misunderstood it

I guess Prof. Wole Soyinka is entirely right afterall. Internet has only raised/revealled an ignorant and illiterate mob in our cyber cycle.
