I walked passed some goats eating grass today..and i imagined if we were in their position it would have been better..we just eat any grass we see and be happy without thinking of bearing the cost of purchase.

It's way more expensive apparently. πŸ˜€
Who woulda thought.
Indeed @mariahAngel.

I earlier last week read your insightful thread about fonio and became curious to know more about it. If it's more expensive than rice in Abuja like has already been stated here, then other cosmopolitan cities such as Lagos and PH wholesale/retail prices would be worse.

Globally though folks are engaging in cost-cutting measures because of inflation and hyperinflation by looking for cheaper alternatives or substitutes for food types, raw materials, etc, without reducing quality... That's the way to go because times like these bring about innovations.

I chop egbo for Ilorin like my life depended on it, beske was more like a chewing gum fo me. Ilorin is damn cheap as regards standard of living in Nigeria then follow by Minna
Apparently, a lot of these folks would be better off living in smaller states or towns instead of pretending to be big boys and babes in Lagos, Abuja, and PH, etc, because food and the total cost of living are way cheaper in those locations.

Good ol Gari of course.

If in Nigeria where you have access to fresh gari, na only Eba I go dey chop. Na lack of clean gari dey make people eat rice for outside Nigeria. Insects now reside inside gari that you can't cook like rice before eating.

Re: Cheapest Substitute For Rice by Tetraozonaitera: 11:40pm On Nov 18, 2023
Go buy dried corn. Take it to the mill where they chop it into tiny bits like rice. They can remove the shaft for you and you've got something close to rice.
It's good with beans and if you know how to cook it people around you won't ask for rice again.

It's no joke.

Yoruba call it egbo.
