Yes, any body of water, be it a Stream, River or Ocean that despised it's source will certainly dry up.

The Yoruba adage says...Omo to so ile nu, O so apo iya ko...He who despised his root, will surfer untold consequencies in life.

Let him face the consequencies of his stupidity.

he should get a backdated divorce cert in Nigeria. File it and claim you and your wife just reconcile and have not gone back to do another registry. You thought you could still use the old one.

One may have resentment towards or even despise Nigeria, but renouncing one's citizenship of Nigeria is sheer stupidity.

You can love and give everything to a country that gave you what your country couldn't give you, but never renounce the citizenship of your own country.
Many people have done this, and will still do it.

If you know any Nigerian who has Austrian or Dutch passport, know he has renounced Nigerian citizenship

First you list your wife as your sister.
Then you get married to a foreigner, get citizenship and divorce just a few years after.
Then you bring back your Nigerian wife (whom you previously listed as your sister!) to the same country, while allowing her to attach her original marriage certificate.

How can a professor of Economics be thinking like an uneducated bricklayer?
he is not a stupid man. He is just a man who lacked foresight. You have to understand the context . This man japa in 1998. In 1998 like almost nobody in Africa had a personal computer. The internet was unheard off, it was windows 95 era. Everything in Africa was done manually and so you can get away with stupid crimes like saying your wife is your sister and then trying to marry your sister after you have gotten your South African citizenship and divorced the South African wife. You can get away with stupid crimes like this in 1998 cuz everything wasn’t computerized and linked. But unfortunately for him South Africa after the tech boom has retroactively gone and imputed all the manual data of that era into the computer and it is exposing silly crimes like this.

If he is a professor of economics, he should write to the president for help to regain his Nigerian citizenship.

His type would be invaluable at this difficult time. He could be a special assistant to the professor or he can be tapped when needed.

Citizenship by birth cannot be renounced. He can come to Nigeria at anytime and you don't need Nigeria passport to be a Nigerian
Actually, it can be renounced. Thereafter restoration of citizenship can only be by the sole prerogative of the President.

Na audio renounce I'm sure the authorities found that out. Many Nigerians abroad with citizenship of those countries still keep their Nigerian passport or always come to Nigeria.

The irony of life is that his people will still be blaming Nigeria government for his predicament. If Nigeria was responsible for his leaving for SA, was Nigeria also responsible for his lies to deceive his new country? Many of us put every blame on government but we never blame ourselves. Thank God we shall all appear before God individually and you cannot blame any other person for your evil behaviours

You can renounced your citizenship as a Nigerian.
It's not necessary as it's not required by Nigeria nor SA, so it was a foolish act by him.
He will need to get a Permanent Resident Visa to come in.
Did he go to Ministry of foreign affairs to do it abii na just verbal empty talk. Man is a Nigerian 100% and don't need PR

There is difference between you saying he can't renounced citizenship by birth/native, and if it's done legally.
If he renounced it legally, he will definitely need one.
The report is silent on how he renounced his citizenship and if it was approved or not.
