you said a good thing but if left for Nigeria Fisher men alone they will wants to become a billionaire overnight..in other way Nigerian takes advantageof scarce commodity instead of little increase it goes high to 10 times
Same way cooking gas is very expensive now. Major marketers have turned themselves into cabals and now fixing prices despite no price increase from NLG.

True. It’s one of the snapper specie, not a red snapper.
I went fishing on one of the piers at Bahia Honda Key close to Key West in Florida last year and we caught lots of red snappers and Mahi- Mahi fishes there.
Exactly.

Rare? Well, maybe rare in Akwa ibom.

Go to Betterlife fish market in Makoko -Yaba...... These fish are abundant there. I mean big red snapper.
Mostly on Sunday's, I go there to buy fresh Rayfish, barracuda and Tiger prawns

The Chinese are already fishing on our waters for free. Different sectors of the economy where we ought to thrive is just laying waste. Fishing is one of them.

Very true.

I learnt Chinese Trawlers, Ghanaians and Cameroonians are the one doing serious fishing in our Waters.

This is a business Nigerians can go into too.

Growing up, I know some Lebanese at Apapa, Lagos into this but left when the old Man became old.

His name? We simply call him Joseph back then.
The reason Nigerians are not into fish trawling is because of corruption and government bureaucracy. Getting loans to buy a trawler is very difficult, an interest rate of 30% is killing. Registering a ship in Nigeria is a herculean task. The Nigerian crew and captain operating the trawler will steal you to oblivion. Navy, police and other government agencies patrolling our Waters will collect bribes and fish from your vessel.

In the 70s, 80s and 90s trawling was a viable business and lots of people went into it. Ibru was a major player in the trawling business. If you go to apapa then, you will see lots of Trawlers offloading fish. But now trawling is a suicide mission.

You are a genius, for your observations!
Most of the Fishes you showed are migrating from the deep-Oceans,so why can't Akwa Ibom State take Advantage by Purchasing more trawlers ,say 30 of them,to enhance Mass Fishing- and produced more for sales to the teeming population, rather thy will be looking for roads, etc, that would not last and go with the Masses Funds.
We,the People, needs govt supports,in ALL Areas:
i- Agriculture Production - e g Fishing,
ii-Cow and Cattle Rearing,
iii- Chicken,Egg Productions,etc!•
iv.PalmOil and Palm Kernel.
Youths can also be sent Abroad to learn New -Techniques and Technology- in Fisheries eg ,I saw a Taiwanese Fisheries some years back- they caught some Female -Tilapia and carefully removed the eggs and speed the eggs back into the Sea,after some injections for quick and rapid Production!
•Our Govt ( States and Federal Govt) are too lazy, not dynamic at all and are not impacting on the Youths of Nigeria!
•Imagine South -South States Alone is sufficient to Feed the Whole Country but Corruption will not allowed them to do the right things by encouraging the Youths!
They preferred to build and waste Money on irrelevant Projects, instead of building the Youth - the Future of Nigeria!

We import fish because Nigerians like easy business. That's why we don't make anything! We like to trade rather than manufacture. Trading is relatively easy and stress free. Just buy, import and sell.

Also Nigerians don't typically dabble in businesses that require a lot of hands on management, discipline, and more operational expertise to manage inventory, cash flow, working capital etc

That why when we have small money we open hotel, barbing salon, build house for rent, sell cars etc

But most of the fine dining restaurants in Lagos are owned and operated by Lebanese.

You are right. Those Fishermen in Akwaibom are making some good money for themselves.
Has pirates stopped harassing, kidnapping and killing fishermen?

My brother's biz at Ikang in Cross River shut down because of pirates kidnapping his customers from Cameroon.

A friend's fishing business around Oron waters also ended because of pirates kidnapping his crew twice for ransom. And the 2nd time they sank his fishing boat. This my friend was using technology to harvest fish in an unusual way but it all ended because of pirates.
