According to Abagworo comment, you're wrong.
Opobo was founded by King Jaja (1821- 1891) in the 18th century and King Jaja was a former Igbo slave called JuboJubogha but renamed “Ja-Ja” by the Europeans because the name was too long to be called. He built Opobo from scratch and transformed it to a commercial Kingdom

This is kind of statement I don't like some says, Mr Fubara.

Is Wike no longer from Rivers? Why dragging I'm Ijaw man blabla to this? Is Ijaw and Wike ethnic clan now enemy or what? This is extremely careless bro Rivers is Rivers, settle your scores with Wike and let peace reign, drop arrogancy and chest beaten you are all same family from same state. And remember no matter the narrative you are given to this issue, Wike gave you the opportunity before people voted for you, if Wike refused you the opportunity and give someone else you will be Fubara in your village bro.

Fubara calm down no need creating division in your state this is just politics don't follow the cursed Ipobidient route it lead to destruction.

Fubara can say whatever TF he likes.....it doesn't change what i said! All that's happening is the conituation of attempts at teritorial expansion by the main Ijaw ethnicity that's largely confined and domicilled in present day Bayelsa state! Unfortunately, there are some within Opobo, Bonny, etc, and even Ikwerre, that have either been deceived or bullied into accepting a new post-'66 anti-Igbo narrative as to their ethnic identity and origins!

Oh....and by the way, i'm from Rivers state as well! A proud and full-blooded Igbo man from Ndoni! You can't try your anti-Igbo revisionist agenda on me mate!
The Ijaw largely confined and domiciled in present-day Bayelsa State? The Ijaw Local Government Areas in Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Ondo, considered collectively, are more than the size of Bayelsa State. Ignorance is bliss!

go and read it,Jaja was from Ndoki also known as OKWA they are a tribe in the igbo land not igbos the key word is they are a tribr in Igbo land.History clearly stated that he was sold into Ijaw land into houses of perple etc.
so my take is this, To be a tribe in Igbo land does not make you igbo just like to be and Esan man in Edo state does not make one Edo .These are the part of history not passed down t young people and they just assume.

Wtf is this nonsense he was born in igboland therefore making him igbo I've got more sources that it's also igbo

The Nwaotam cult emerged from the deity of ancient Ibani people called the Ottam people. These people were brought in mostly to satisfy the Europeans’ quest for human commodities in the 18th and 19th century.

According to the memories of late captain High Crow of Liverpool (1791: P 201) who visited Bonny for trade, “the Ottam tribe are stout and robust and of a deeper black than any other tribes at Bonny. Their bodies and face are carved and tattooed in a frightful manner.”

The Ottams were not only notable for the worship of spirits they called ‘Mmoh’; but were also brought into Bonny as adults, therefore the description ‘Ottam Mmku’ was made popular in Bonny. It was also in this line, that their working strength, tribal marks and rascality gave them another local phrase, Ottam Ahiriha.

The Ibani tradition has it that the Nwa-Otam originated from a dark mythical grove in Mkpajekiri around Ohambele Ndoki. By this time, the Ndoki native, which included the Ottam tribes men, had started serving this ‘Mmoh’ gods believed to be heterosexual; and would organise dance during a season of the year. [/b]
You just need to hear them speak. The people of Opobo and Bonny all speak one native language - Igbo. No other language whatsoever do they speak in addition. Neighbouring towns surrounding Bonny may still speak Ibani but Bonny town proper speaks pure Igbo. The first Igbo bible was written in Bonny Igbo, and the dialect is notable for saying, 'ike m' for 'me' which funny enough means 'my buttocks' in other Igbo dialects and 'ike gi' for 'you/yours' which means 'your buttocks' in other Igbo dialects. Chinua Achebe, in one of his books, had written about a funny Igbo christian interpreter from a distant land to his town who was known for saying, 'ike m' and 'ie gi', which confused the people of his village. Many of these people, though, bear 'Ibani' names such as Fiberesima etc. they barely know the meaning of in addition to Igbo names as well. They all practise Igbo customs, namely 'omugwo', and celebrate Igbo festivals they share in common with their Ndoki Igbo neighbours such as the Nwaotam festival. However, their dressing style is Rivers/Riverine style.

The native language is not igbo, its Ijaw please be guided. If you lean to history for a bit, King jaja of opobo who apparently found Opobo was called Jubo Jubogha.(has no meaning in Igbo language) The opobo people are referred as from a sub tribe of igbo land(Just cos they existed in Igbo land does not make them igbo)They where referred to as the Ndoki people back then approx. 1870
B4 you scream I will give you a famous example, The Benin came from the yorubas but you don't see anyone from Yoruba land saying Edo state belong to Yoruba land)

Opobo are not subtribe of Igbo or anyone. There was a crisis in Bonny and Jaja moved to establish Opobo with his followers. They were all from Bonny. The language of Opobo is Igbo like I wrote earlier but they are Ijaw. If you doubt me just pay a visit and see for yourself. Ndoki is different from Bonny. Ndoki is in Abia State close to Aba but extended alongside Asa into Rivers State bordering Eleme, Etche and Ikwerre. Oyigbo LGA comprise of Ndoki and Asa people in Rivers . Bordered in Abia by Osisioma, Ugwunagbo and Aba South all Ngwa then Ika and Ukanafun in Akwaibom.

Ndoki are not neighbours to Opobo cause you have to cross Ogoniland then river before getting to Opobo from Ndoki. The trade with Ndoki was palm oil facilitated by Jaja during his time in Bonny which he shifted to Opobo being closer to Imo River where the palm products came from thereby starving Bonny of supply. Founders of Opobo came from Ibani not Ndoki.

The emboldened statement is not strictly true.

While historical records show the Ijo were more renowned for facilitating the transatlantic slave trade, linguistic studies reveals ijo-derived lexicon in Berbice (Guyana) and, to a lesser extent, Haiti. cool

You have not said anything reasonable here. Ijos are a a very proud and distinct tribe.
I don't know why among all the major tribes in Nigeria, Igbos are the most insecure. I have never seen Hausa trying to annex another tribe, neither the Yorubas. You Igbos are just a bunch of troublesome lots.

=IGBOSON1 post=127156285]Opobo, Bonny and Okirika during colonial times were independent city-states that had influences and origins from the Igbo ethnicity....and Ijaw to a lesser extent! What happened was that after the uncivil war, ethnic politics took over in the region, and the Fulani/Yoruba hegemonic alliance, intent on diminishing Igbo territory, influence and economy, empowered the Ijaw who went on to Ijawnise the aforementioned city-states who up until then didn't see the need to publicly proclaim that they were either Igbo or Ijaw![/quote]

This is Rivers state politics and Fabura should be allowed to claim his Ijaw in peace because it is politically more rewarding for him at this stage.
The reason is that after 24 years of Odili,Amaechi and Wike's rule it was assumed it is Ijaw Rivers turn to rule and some Ijaw extremist are suspecting that Fabura is actually an Igboman occupying position that supposed to go to an Ijaw man that is the reason he have to come out clear and claim Ijaw as his ethnicity.Ndi Igbo should allow him be.
Make we no use nzuzu and political iberibe to spoil his shine.
