Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States, has confirmed the reports that U.S. presidents pay for their meals and other personal effects.

Michelle Obama, during a talk show on CNN, revealed, 'They tell you you can order anything, and they listen very carefully because everybody listens to every word the president says. I used to tell Barack, don't say you want something, because then we will have like thousands of it, and then, you know, we are paying for it…

She went on to reveal that though they don't pay rent and they don't pay for staff, 'everything, every dish, they will count, even the number of peanuts that you eat, and charge it back, and you get a bill at the end of it.'"

Similarly, the Guardian reported Laura Bush said “After our first year in the White House, our accountant said to George (W Bush), ‘It costs a lot to be president,’ and he was referring mainly to my clothes.”

She also paid “with our own money” for someone to blow-dry her hair most mornings “just so I could try to avoid a bad hair day.”

The Guardian conveyed Laura Bush's statement: "After our initial year in the White House, our accountant informed George (W Bush), 'Being president is expensive,' specifically referencing my wardrobe."


In another report by WASHINGTON (AP) , it says, — There’s no free lunch — or breakfast or dinner — for President Barack Obama on Thanksgiving Day. Or any other day for that matter.

He has to dig into his pocket to pay for his holiday feast of turkey, ham, two kinds of stuffing, sweet and regular potatoes and six different kinds of pie. It’s a longstanding practice that a president pays for meals for himself, his family and personal guests.

Obama also pays for other basics — everything from toothpaste to dry cleaning.

WHY IS THAT?
Gary Walters, who was chief White House usher for many years, said the payment rule dates back to 1800 when the White House was first occupied by President John Adams and there was no staff. Presidents brought staff with them and paid for everything.


Congress gradually began spending money to maintain an official White House staff to oversee operations and maintenance, but presidents continued to pay for personal expenses.

What it boils down to, Walters said, is that the White House is first and foremost the president’s home.

I really don't understand your point, but if you're trying to insinuate there's corruption and stealing of money by American politicians, I beg to disagree.

We may say no system is 100% perfect or clean, but if your insinuation is a means of justifying or exonerating the greedy Nigerian politicians who loot and reloot the country dry, then I beg to disagree.

There's no way to even start comparing their leaders with ours in any way. Lastly, don't forget to look at their country, their working economy, and true services to their citizens in every way.

He started paying himself salary of 500 thousand dollars a year and in less than a year his company packed up 😆
