So you’re asking banks to recapitalize in anticipation of $1tn gdp without workable and actionable plans. For our Naija economy of $449bn gdp to hit $1tn in the next 8 years, it must grow @12-15% per annum ..who dash this power?? So you’re asking banks to recapitalize for a projected and unattainable number… which means that ,if they’re seeking for FDI, they’d be required to LIE that they operate in a gdp of $1tn instead of $440bn?? |

The height of cluelessness... it's obvious the vault is empty from illicit fund approvals to sway their ego, while Cardumbo is seeking more funding through re-capitalization of banks.. You are talking of a proposed $1tr economy, when your manufacturing sector is going comatose, your unemployment rate is killing, recapitalisation would even throw more into the labour market. Where would your stock investors come from?..the hungry populace whose buying power has been reduced to zero? how many of the Nigerian elite populace survived the 2008 stockmarket collapse?.. FX round trooping and bond investment seems more stable than your stockmarket.. Bought Equity bank shares, it was reduced on merging with Intercontinental, it was further reduced on merging with access bank.. 10 - 1, 7 - 1 while stock prices plummeted.. Citizens - diamond - access.... same story Now union to fidelity... same story Skye bank... same story, as at today, the dividends can't even buy me a good lunch in a good restaurant. Pharmaceuticals companies, manufacturing coys and a whole lot of others are going moribund or going private due to unethical political influence, yet the priority is raising bank capitals for a phantom $1tr limbo economy from the poorest country in the world. The country obviously needs a major administrative re-brand, its unfortunate those that preach snatch, grab and run can't even convince a kid talk more elite investors.. Elections truly have consequences.. |

What this simply means is that, we want to grow our economy. So banks do you have enough money to sustain the growth? If No, merge together to meet the proposed growth. |

This new CBN governor should not just think of unverified policies and rush to implement it, without proper study. Because a single mistake will have the country suffering and at this point, we don't want to break. If he's not too sure.... He should back off. |

I said it that one of the best way to stabilize the economy is recapitalization those banks. Yemi Cardozo is very right on this move. This way the bank executives who are well into fx speculation (buy low, sell high) marketers would now be turned to "invest in our bank" marketers thereby reducing money for fx speculation and force them to bring out their gains on fx speculation to the make their company and the country better. Luckily, banking does not need much buildings these days that will cause them to be adding overvalued buildings as part of their capital and Cardozo should watch out for banks using overvalued internet infrastructural to claim capital. |

The recapitalization is actually a good step but the problem here is, if some of this bank merge, won't that cause them to downsize? And increase unemployment |

So from 2004 to 2023 about 19yrs the Naira has lost 575.3% of its value? This country is headed to self destruction. |

Very funny country and people and Banks. The CBN in 2008 forced down Recapatilization of bank capitals base down our throat. We saw the gains and several collateral damages not excluding dislocation of the microeconomics and family economics whose daily life depends on Banking system. Stability set in few years. Only for CBN again with thoughtless policies to erode our gains by causing several inflicted inflation and depreciation of Naira and DMB also engaging in further dubious malpractices to weakened the naira further through pecuniary and shortsighted gains . Walking blindly round the cycle, CBN that mismanaged the economy is now proposing Recapatilization again. What do we call this. |
| Re: Fresh recapitalisation: Bank CEOs, others In merger, acquisition talks by Kukutenla: 8:13am On Nov 26, 2023 |
Recapitalisation because your currency is weak. I don't think the banks need capital to run the economy up to 1trn. The fundamentals are still weak. We need to grow the economy not banks. The economy is in recession. You can feel it everywhere. |
