The House of Representatives may consider two bills to allow for more national languages outside English as Nigeria’s lingua franca.

Reacting to a piece of technological initiative by the Bildup Integrated Services to encourage the apprenticeship system and boost skills acquisition, Hon Kalu the Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps. said that efforts are being made to make the three major languages of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba official to encourage the apprenticeship system.

He reasoned that many youth communicate better in their mother tongues when learning a skill than using English as the nation’s lone official language

ALLOW THE ENGLISH BUT STILL MANDATE USAGE OF LOCAL LINGUA AT HOME.

If my child started school in the east and later on relocates to the west or north, will he or she start learning another language?
By forcing minorities to adopt wazobia languages, you speed up the extinction of their languages .
Which language would Wike's ppl adopt?Which body decides which language a state would adopt.
Also in the future,Nigeria would be erased from native english speakers.

Long overdue. If some constituencies can adopt Hausa with Arabic and reject education via armed struggle, adoption of other major languages as official language should be seriously considered.
Ijaw, Tiv, and Calabar too should be considered also.

It's good. To make it more effective, make states pass laws that will domesticate the law especially in states with more than one dominant language. In a state like Edo, there's Bini, Ishan, Afemai, Akoko etc . Such states may struggle to choose which to adapt. Check my signature for free stuffs!

This is rubbish.. in a country of over 250+ ethnic groups and languages?

These guys don't have any meaningful impact to make in that House of Reps. It's obvious they are bereft of ideas.

There are many problems faced by Nigerians and this might just be the least why not make bills on more important issues.

nope not true joor . Like telling me that Nupe language is the same language with Hausa language. Ikwere tribe are totally different from Igbo tribe now. Igbo people may lived among them like the way Igbo people lived among Yoruba people in Yoruba land.

Ikwere is a dielect of Igbo. Funny enough they are different variants of ikwere Igbo. I even heard ogbakor ikwere has tried to look for a unified ikwere language but it seems not to be working out. Most of the Igboid tribes understand themselves when they speak but they choose not to communicate with each other because doing that would involve them using Igbo Izugbe-- Haha...
Doing that would remind them of who they truly are. Here in Omoku where I am partly from the ogba language is slowing dying due to the influx of strangers. Well the only solution to addressing the issue is adopting the Igbo Izugbe.
But will they be willing to do it? Well time would tell
