You are right and all this happens because the government has refused to deal with such staff.

You are partly correct; it also happens because many of us have developed penchant for doing the wrong things. We grew up in a disorderly society and we get used to doing things the wrong ways believing nobody will do anything or that nothing can happen to us, or that our society is warped and compromised and we can also buy our ways out of troubles we create for ourselves.
We should always bear in mind that illegality will always remain illegality. The wrong we do can only remain dormant and unvisited until someone dogged and resolute comes into the equation.

Building on government land and building on unapproved land is a serious offence,it is not only in lagos state.I am an igbo man but I don't support the act of building on unapproved land. Some build on water way causing serious harvock to the street. The only area I see some kind of a maltreatment on a perticular tribe is the fact that government don't go after the chiefs and obas selling the government land to innocent buyers. How many of the criminals selling the government land have been prosocuted. My advice to my igbo brothers is to stop building in lagos or anywhere outside south east or south south for now, because nigeria is not as it use to be.May God Almighty give the victims the mind to bear the lost because it is not easy losing all your building like that.

The rule in buying land is Caveat Emptor. Buyers beware.
It is your duty to do your due diligence.
Those who sold land to them are still in that area, they didn't deny. Why can't those who bought land arrest them?

As for you saying particular tribe is being maltreated, that is your problem. I guess you were in coma when Soludo was demolishing houses in Anambra. If you think you get craze, come try am for Lagos. It is better you stay in your place and be building on government land there.

The problem with Nigeria is that those in government offices can use legitimate government papers to issue you an illegitimate approval, especially when you are desperate to have such approvals. I was once issued a vehicle licence by an agent only for me to realise it was fake when I approached licensing office the following year to have it renewed, the same thing applies to the first driver's license I had, I discovered it was fake when I tried to renew it. For those two documents I needed to go through the right channel determined to do whatever it takes to get the original the second time.

^^^
I hate this agent nonsense.

For several years I would go the bank and endure all sorts of crazy delays to renew my vehicle licence. It was always one story after the other - 'the portal is down', 'we don't have licence printing paper' etc. I hate using 'agents' for anything and so I endured all this rubbish...until one by one, the banks stopped renewal of drivers licences...and I was forced to use an agent. Somehow the delays are fewer with an agent...and mysteriously, they never run out of licence printing paper. But...the agent never issues an official receipt for payments made and the money paid is always higher than the 'official' charge printed on the licence. One of these days I'll head to the licencing office to battle it out with them on why something as simple as vehicle licence renewal cannot be done by the vehicle owner through a bank. Dem take 'agent' swear for Nigeria? undecided

The woman (Francesca James) said they visited initially, it was at block level, they stopped them, they did not answer and refuse to stop. They continued working.

Visiting again, they realised that the owners of the building have now raised the building up from block level. She said maybe the builders think that they were above the law....

This is one of the reasons why they were trying to bribe as they knew they had no case in court to stop any demolition.

Just ignorant.

I was shown a place that was within the setback for a powerline. Because i knew, i refused. Yet, others were buying and developing such plots. When a government come that insist on demolishing the place, we will be blaming Govt

That exactly is what happens in Lagos. No observance of setback rules. Before any infrastructure construction commences, they must demolish. Houses have been built everywhere.

Why all of a sudden after the flawed elections Lagos now realised that properties in the streets where Igbos dominate has one issue or the other and now the Tinubu led Federal govt has asked the FHA to go to festac and demolish properties there, simply because a certain people has most of the properties there.
I can assure you that Igbos are very tough people and in difficult conditions, they strive better and there is always positivity in every situation. It is now motivating a lot of Lagos Igbos whom use to think that they where at home with the cowardly Yorubas, to now start investing imassively back home. I got to Akwa last month and it was a massive construction site, meaning more money and employment for home boys.Thats exactly the way to go.
I am sure Igbos got the message sent by Yoruba authorities and at the appropriate time they will be paid back.

This was houses being demolished in 2022 in Ikorodu area of Lagos. Because most of the owners were Yorubas, there was no outrage like we are seeing now. No victim mentality like we are seeing now. Tinubu wasn't the president as as well..

Of course, they have no certificate of occupancy. If they did, FHA won't be able to demolish the houses.

The land were sold to them by Omo oniles who just issue them some Awori family receipts with word of mouth promise that all is okay grin

Why not approach your state licensing office, those agents are mostly fake, they manufacture and print their own papers. Go straight into vehicle licensing office, don't allow anyone stop you on your way in. It is better to tip someone right inside if they are proving difficult than patronise an agent with 'no link' to government office.

You read the whole thing and you still find it hard to understand. Not all lands can be built upon for the sake of sustainable development. Certain lands are marked green areas, others belong to different government agencies while others are setbacks from canals, drainage, water bodies or power lines. Before making any land purchase, go with a surveyor, pick the coordinates, have the land information done so as to know the land title. It’s not every land that even gets a C of O. Some gets government consent, some their titles will be regularization. STOP CLAIMING VICTIMS as nobody is out to get you

You're actually the one heading for destruction for tuning every discourse into a tribal warfare.

There's no where it was stated in the entire write up the Igbos are charting a path that will lead them to alienation but here you are spewing tribal and ethnic bigotry

Go emancipate yourself from ethnic and tribal bigotry and watch your life blossom
But some Igbos here are disgusting. Eben in real life, some can be unreasonable.
It's always good to be tactical in approach. It makes you reason well before act. Those that bought those lands failed in land verification.
