Tokunbo Wahab is the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

Ilemona Onoja is a former aide to former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki and a member of Atiku Abubakar's presidential campaign council.

Jubril Gawat is the senior special adviser on new media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Tokunbo Wahab:
After the inspection tour of System 156 and 157 Channel yesterday, we have issued a seven-day contravention notice to owners of buildings lying within the seven metres drainage setback on Orchid Rd, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa, Oral Estate II, all along the Ikota River.

We cannot keep lampooning the government for flooding when developers, builders & residents are the main cause of flooding; we shall continue to enforce because that is why laws are made. Without law and order, there cannot be development. Enough of this bad behaviour!

We also visited Chevron Drive, where a stop work order was issued to Gravitas company, owners of Grace Ville Island & Pocket Island.

We urge Lagosians to respect the State Drainage Master Plan to avoid property demolition as there is no going back on the decision of the state to enforce the law and reclaim Drainage setbacks following the expiration of the notices issued.

Ilemona Onoja:
Any demolition exercise without the arrest & prosecution of the govt officials who gave illegal building approvals & certificates of occupacy renders makes this a wicked & vindictive exercise.

Tokunbo Wahab:
It is not enough to make a lame assumption. If you know anyone with building approval, help them post and tag us. Thanks!

Ilemona Onoja:
Ok. I'll def do so. Thank you.

Seyi Omidina:
Hope there'll be a penalty for fake documents tagging sir?

Tokunbo Wahab:
DEFINITELY!

He shut up really quick.

See... it's extremely stupid to try to fight a Government.

You are not fighting an individual but the system. Successive Governments will just carry on after the person you pissed off has left.

Babangidapikin:
Hmmm people are going to lose hundreds of millions o ...are they alternative like underground channeling... problem is most of those areas are water logged initially, so sand filling is normal, it becomes difficult to know what is government approved land ... especially when it seems everyone has the same documentation... the Lagos State government should also make effort to digitalize the process, so people can search online in their portal instead of meeting individuals that would sell them gbamjo ...

Before Lagos state would demolish structures, they should first demolish their archaic systems that are not working.

Go to office of the State Surveyor General, they’re still sorting their files manually.

They’ll give you tracking numbers that you can’t track from the comfort of your house without meeting or interfacing government officials.

The last time I went to track a file, I was told that the fire incident that happened in the OSSG office affected them hence the reason they’re sorting millions of records manually.

I ask if they haven’t digitize their records in 2023 and if they don’t know what they call backup in this age and time.

Attached below is how it’s done in a sane society. They make land information easily accessible to their citizens to prevent people from building on committed lands.

But here, govt deliberately keep the records away from the people. Instead of fighting tooth and nail to fix those systems that are not working, they’re celebrating their mediocrity on the social media.
It’s even more worrisome that the educated and those who have lived in sane societies find it so comfortable to cuddle up this mediocrity than to question it.

Lagos the biggest economy in Africa still sorting their land records manually in 2023 - SHAME!

Is this how difficult it is to obtain land information ion developed societies?

The energy they exert on social media to throw tantrums like overgrown babies should be spent in their offices building systems to prevent this issues from reoccurring.

But then, you can’t give what you don’t have!

Mediocres and opportunists in power

I no longer pity the people that invest in properties there.

In fact, they should demolish all properties there. People need to become wiser.
