Prisons/Correctional Centre is not a Revenue institution.
Govt could simply forgive the debt on paper and release whoever they have determined to forgive their debt/crime.

There's always budget for prisons, Bail payments notwithstanding.

The poverty in that North is beyond human compression.

I remember when I and an NGO visited a prison in Kano some years back ,, we found one very young girl , heavily pregnant, can deliver today or tomorrow,,, when we asked her the reason for her sentence, she said "Illegal roaming the streets".. She was sentenced to 3 months in prison with option of 10,000 naira fine ,, for weeks , her family couldn't raise ordinary 10k to free their pregnant child ...

We started feeling angry at the Man who impregnated her ,, then asked for his whereabouts,,,, she said "The Man is also here in this prison" he was imprisoned for putting her in the family way without Marrying her ..

We had to start the fine payment on the spot ...

Releasing prisoners at this time is another way of sending them to hell.

They should better remain there

And you think releasing them into the street no matter whatever they may have or not have done is the best? Do you realize that anybody who goes to prison never comes out the same way he/she went in?

What the government ought to do was supposed to be reorientation for all criminals which should take at least 3 months to wash off that prison trauma and psyche rather than just releasing them into the streets. I’m guessing you will be happy if you start getting thieves banging on your door during Christmas
And somehow you don't believe this must have been going on since they announced this plan a few months back.

Any plan to rehabilitate them, or we're just ejecting more nuisances into the society?

Awesome!!! Tunji-Ojo is really working very hard. God bless him and his team in the Ministery of Interior.

Now I understand why he was moved to the ministry of interior after the initial portfolio was announced. He seems to be working from a strategy book with KPIs. He wanted the beneficiaries of the act of benevolence to be with their loved ones before Christmas and so they can make the new year on fresh start as free citizens. I see many of them becoming great in the future.

I plead with them to please turn a new leave and enjoy the rest of their lives as free law abiding citizens.
Thank you to everyone who donated and toiled hard to make this possible. May God bless you all.

Thank you President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this humane gesture and patriotic dedication to our fatherland. God bless Nigeria for ever!Check my signature for free stuffs!
You can’t understand anything because you want to praise politicians, who are they paying the 585 million to? This is a strategy to loot money from Nigeria treasury 😂😂😂

This is a strategy of looting money from Nigeria treasury accounts and converting to their personal use, if not what’s the business of federal government with fine melted on individual for their wrong doings? Or furthermore if the government is actually interested in helping some prisoners why not grant them pardon without squandering Nigeria funds, some fools are praising them here thinking the government is actually doing something good listen carefully this is a loot 585 million can go a long way executing a good government project make una Dey play

He set agenda for himself and simply executes. Wike did the same. Many ministers cannot set any agenda which explains why they are confused. Bosun Tijani needs to set milestones for himself and focus. Same as the guy in mines, steel, blue economy, creative economy and so on. It is a way to measure oneself and let people keep track.

For mines, we are yet to see his policy direction beyond going to look for investors and withdrawing licenses. This is how to fail. Call subject matter experts and develop a road map for the sector. Once people see you know where you are going, local businessmen will invest in the sector and embassies will tell their countries that opportunities abound in Nigeria.

If Tunji Ojo comes up with a plan to ask for investors to come and build and run prisons for example, they'd come.

Festus Keyamo too needs to get his acts together. Infact, all ministers should sit up. You don't have to know everything. You have to be knowledgeable enough to know that you don't know anything. Study the party manifesto, gather subject matter experts and organize a one-week agenda setting retreat with them. Once you have a clear policy direction, execution is not difficult. Look at Wike, wanting to carry out a staff audit in FCT. That is a plan to cut costs. For Bosun Tijani, energize NIPOST by engaging local people to purchase vehicles that should be doing haulage across the country. Just collect taxes. We have the market.

Dear minister, what is your plan?
Use your BMC influence to push for simpler NIN and BVN processes.

You are also a Nigerian. You can lend your voice to any issue you feel should be addressed and suggest solutions. We can help amplify it. I am not more Nigerian than you are.

Bro, try and wish them well and hope they won't come back. Many of these people have been presumed dead by their families as their families didn't know what happened to them.

Instead of complaining and seeing the bad in every situation, let us also proffer solutions. We are all stakeholders in the Nigerian project.

If you complain that the ₦10k for transport is too small, how about you suggest that haulage trucks returning from different parts of the country to Northern Nigeria which are usually empty are used to pick up some of the prisoners and drop them in their different destinations along the paths of the trucks?

Some of these people have lost the will and hope because of incarceration. Let us help them with encouraging words at the very least. They don't have to cone back to prove you right.
Because Nigeria correctional centre is not it too.
I know they need help.
Many innocent citizens benefited.
But the question is; What you are giving is just ₦10k transportation fare.
Na waoooo.
Most of them will end up by going back to jail due to the economic hardship.
