I assume these are accumulated from previous govts, with each successive govt adding one or two as the old ones get outdated, hence the current sale.

However i would imagine the fleet is not used by Mr President alone...the VP and other officials in the line of succession including the VP and Senate President probably use the fleet too.

If you see one plane then be sure there are many more. Secondly, even in cases where a national carrier is used. The planes interior is reconfigured and a temporary new call sign used. At that moment and for that purpose it is the Presidential plane.

At the moment Nigeria does not have a national carrier.

There is nothing wrong in having a Presidential fleet. What is wrong is using it for wrong purposes - in my opinion, the purposes which the PP is used need to be codified. Not all countries can operate spoken or verbal conventions.

The federal government has advertised the sale of two aircraft in the presidential fleet, in an apparent move to cut down the size of the fleet.

The fleet is believed to hold as much as 10 airplanes, and Mr. Buhari has been criticised for maintaining the large fleet.

Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, hinted in September that the number of aircraft in the fleet would be reduced.

The Office of the National Security Adviser advertised the sale of two airplanes on Tuesday.

The advert, published on page 35 of Tuesday’s edition of ThisDay Newspaper, said the aircraft up for sale were Falcon 7x and Hawker 4000.

The advertorial detailed the specification of the planes as well as their performance levels, indicating that they were in pretty good condition.

Interested buyers are advised to inspect the Falcon at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

On the other hand, the Hawker 4000 can only be inspected at Cessna Zurich Citation Service Centre, Zurich, Switzerland.

The bids are to be quoted in dollars, the notice said.
