The ones I met are normal guys who have normal jobs and also make money buying and selling gadgets on the phone section. I met one in Ajah sometimes around 2017, he drives an EOD.

I met one in 2019, he drives one small SUV. He is an engineer who works a normal job and also imports phones from China and other countries. I think he gone fully into importation of different goods from China.

These guys do not look like potential Chief Ebuka in the next 5 years sef.

I don't doubt the fact that Chief Ebuka may have grown a company that started with hundreds of thousands to a million-venture business, but the figures, line of business, inflation and exchange rate are not adding up in this particular story.
no call am company sef,na the same brick and mortar shop, but with a few branches.most of this shops moves more volume than the popular names u know.

when one keeps their mind open, they will learn more.many are making money.my best friend has flipped 4k dollaes to 38k dollars this year in crypto even before the bull run.he bought some gems of a coin and to him those coins has not even started.but if ur not in the crypto space you won't believe him.many are making legit money and they will never tell you how they do it.who sells his secret.
someone in my group made 27k dollar from DTO airdrop..

Someone flipped 100$ to 1mil $ during bald run..

And me, I'll make my first million dollar during this bull run.. cool

I actually know someone with same trajectory, started with laptops but ended with money exchange and crypto

However I don't believe in selling false dreams because it's very rare. In Nigeria we tend to hold up one guy, a 0.1% occurrence that hammered and the other 99% will rush in and get themselves wrecked chasing that one example, when they had other options with more certainty but less upside

A good example was in the late 2000s, one of our seniors (Keniebi Okoko) went back home and became a billionaire almost overnight thanks to his relationship with GEJ. Many other guys in my circle here in UK who had decent careers rushed home to chase the same goldrush but 80% of them returned with tails tucked, one even lost his house after falling behind on payments. Some carried on chasing the dream till date but are at disadvantage to where they would have been if they just stayed the course.

the whole stuff was taken out of content, the odds of someone with 20m traveling out and making it is higher but for many rubbishing 20m as if its nothing.till now 20m can do a whole lot to someone with dreams and discipline.

What is usually responsible for this is story of people like Chief Ebuka who don't tell their stories in full; they withhold key details when telling their story.

If u don't know about the Okoko guy's GEJ connection, u too will most likely think the guy came home, sold his technical know-how to the government and made billions off it.

Some actually went to work for him, he invited them, but when they got there, Naija factor entered. Friend turned to boss and they couldn't relate the same way again

You can also blame Duncan Mighty for adding his name in the Port Harcourt boy song. That thing ginger PH boys to try their luck well well.

Phone business
Car business
Real Estate
Petrol Station
Shopping Mall

These businesses are "The More you look, the very less you see"

Just be careful when vouching for anyone that made it through these.

They will never tell you what is developing the back end

People said they’ll rather choose 20mil than japa but can’t come up with tangible business that’ll make you live comfortably in Nigeria.
Except you build house in the village and work in the city which makes you same as abroadians building houses in the village and working abroad.
Most people with real 20mil in their account have japaed…. I’m sure they’ve done business or thought of business to do and gave up.
Opening multiple phone charging spot or POS will just give you heart attack and not comparable to the benefit you’ll get in a developed country.

You go just see Blueray quit his job start diesel supply and next thing he is a billionaire, he wont tell you that Seyi Makinde is his inlaw who gave him direct link with DPR and gave him contract to supply all govt offices for Oyo state
Anyone can become a billionaire if the "gods are watering your farm".

Say bag of rice is 50K but someone can give me a "plug" to those govt covid rice store for free, I will sell for 40K run everyone else out of market and give you my zero to hero Tedtalk next year

Linda ikeji is a perfect example of this. Woman was rising slow and steady then in 2015 she became a billionaire. I think it somehow tied into the elections but I don't know how.

She went from black gate to banana island.
And now we are cursed with her copycats with even less restraint who are trying to put lightning in a bottle.

Working for a friend usually doesn't end well except it is a partnership in which they contribute and share profit in a predetermined proportion.

Either one person gets tired of being a subordinate to his friend or the other party gets tired of his friend not knowing his place as his subordinate despite being his friend

This particular example happened wella and it was mostly during GEJ tenure, boys that had a steady job in Yankee just quit say dem don get person for govt. 99% of them failed.
Many lost their marriage cos the wife was carrying responsibilities in Yankee alone,
many lost their careers because they stayed 5 to 6yrs out of it and couldnt come back in,
One died, he was asthmatic had an attack in a Night club and people ran from him later they took him to a police post "wetin una do am", "who hit am something" na him the guy dey on floor for police station from 3am to 5am when he died
Some quickly cut their losses and came back
One boy wey leave Naija at about 10yrs old, enter Lagos dey wear camo shorts dey flex around when mopol catch am, he begin speak "fune" dem cock gun for am, the guy said "My life flashed in front of me". Next flight he was out. We still dey laugh am
My guy left UK job to dey do diesel supply for Lagos cos he has some uncles wey fit connect am, When body tell am he found his way to Canada and japa finally

Work in corporate and you will see it all the time. We had project that could run with 200m awarded to oga at the top cousin for 400m. One of my colleagues was saying na only for here them go sneeze and we will catch cold. Outside of here they are like any other contractor.

If the ceo of uba decides today that his cousin will supply uba with all their pc hardware, that is where it begins and ends

Though someone tried to run that game with shell and Innoson. I am sure whoever did it got burned.

20m naira shouldn't make you not to japa if the opportunity arises. For me,Japa isn't for economic freedom alone but quality of life.

This thing you said ehn - as a naija matter no matter how much paper you have you cannot escape some realities. One time i was doing some boy boy work at our oga Pata patas house. A street in ikoyi with several of Nigerias cream del a cream ceos. No street lights and the road was torn up. You will literally be afraid of being robbed if you are out late.
