DissTroy:You still don't know what you are talking about. You can get the Best, hottest and newest news of the day with just a click. Infact you can get the best news of the day from yesterday, last week and even last year with a single click. Nairaland doesn't even have any variety of news. It's political news and that's all then one nonsense topic from the romance section. Then on Sundays and Friday it welcomes you with Islam and Christian brouhaha.

Bombblacks:You are still arguing what you know little about. Attached are my account screenshots for Hot and New news on the Reddit front-page. The third is my screenshot for Nairaland Followed Boards. Notice the similarities? The "news" are really nothing more than updates limited to the boards/topics I follow chronologically; with most not being newsworthy or news to begin with. My insistence from the onset is Nairaland is the best news aggregation platform . You are the one redefining and expanding news aggregation to fit your agenda. Reddit homepage is still a limited-scope rabbithole.

DissTroy:If Nairaland is your best news aggregation platform then you have a very low expectation. Can you show me the latest news on Sports, Cryptocurrency, Foreign affairs of the day on Nairaland? Go to the front page and all what you have been seeing for the past week is Fubera and Wike yet you call it the best news aggregation platform lol. Reddit is levels above whatever nairaland offers. Now let's say I want to get the hottest football news of the day, I get it with just a click (screenshots). If I want the hottest NBA news I can get that with just a click as well ditto for foreign news all on the same page and you are telling me nairaland is what again? Stop playing.

Bombblacks:That guy no know wetin e dey talk. Most of my search on Google is targeted at Reddit. Nairaland of yesteryears was comparable, at least for Nigerian based information, but it's fallen off, no thanks to Twitter. Make Disstroy just talk say e no too Sabi Reddit, or it's just not his thing. |

Bombblacks:I'd ignore this. My focus on reiterating a point I intend to make is onerous and I wouldn't deviate. ![]() Can you show me the latest news on Sports, Cryptocurrency, Foreign affairs of the day on Nairaland?Simple: Follow those boards/topics on Nairaland like you do on Reddit, and they'd appear on your Followed Boards. Yes, users post content and news about cryptocurrency, football, and scientic discoveries daily on Nairaland. There are sections beyond the sports section. News is essentially reporting as it develops in real-time even. What you're getting on Reddit on the frontage are mostly days-old news with the rabbithole of nested comments. I know as Africans we like to demonize everything which is ours in favour of others, but on news aggregation (in the strictest sense of what news is), Nairaland towers above others. Not forgetting, it towers above Reddit and Facebook for page indexing. Only Twitter outranks it on this. |

Theflint1:From his posts you can see he doesn't really understand Reddit so I wouldn't blame him much. Comparing Nairaland to a multi functional platform like Reddit Is a slappable offense. |

DissTroy:Bro am getting a Romano tweet and official club statement a second it's posted. Am getting foreign affair news and UK news immediately they dropped. I mean like seconds literally. What the hell do you mean day old news lol. Bro you don't know what you are talking about so just stop. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 8:27pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
Theflint1:Most of your search isn't for news. When it comes to resources and guides, Reddit beats others, including Twitter. When it comes to news aggregation, Nairaland towers above all. You don't even understand what news aggregation is or what news is to begin with. Reddit is not my thing? Unlike the other guy who uses it for mundane things like sports updates, I use it for career advancement so it's literally my thing as the resources are life-changing/ life-defining. Again, go find out what news aggregation means. When you do, you'd better understand my point. |

DissTroy:The way you're going on and on about the news aggregation thing, one would think its something special. Is it not to gather topics that break on Twitter one or two hours after they've broken and present it in list format like Nairaland does...there's nothing exactly special about that. I personally don't even bother with Nairaland home page cause practically everything they'd have there would have already broken on Twitter like some hour or hours back. Presenting stale news in list format is nothing really special. |

DissTroy:DîssTróy doesn't deviate from what the point he's making. Attempting to redefine news aggregation to smuggle in your agenda is exactly what it is - an attempt; an effort which wasn't enough. ![]() |

Theflint1:Twitter is another rabbithole limited to the topics and people you follow. Worse is, if you depend on Trends, it's misleading. I can make my phone pouch dominate Twitter trends for 10 hours if I get 40 guys with 50,000 followers using a designated keyword and tweeting continuously while others pick up on it for impressions. Haven't you seen something as silly as "Otilo" and "Wahala wahala" trend on Twitter? Worse is, it also has geolocation limitation which you can change as you will. On Nairaland, the most newsworthy the gazillion posts are highlighted on the frontpage as it happens the stories develop. I can skim through a diverse range of topics in a very short time then check out boards for more and search out wider internet for more information. Billions of news articles are posted on Facebook daily. Do you get all of it in one place or they are limited to what turns up on your timeline which are in turn determined by people, pages, and your activities? The point is simply news aggregation, not other functinalities. That's the point. How you turned news aggregation to implying I was ranking Nairaland above Twitter on other indices is surprising. |

DissTroy:There's nothing special in news aggregation, all the major traditional news agencies do news aggregation as the reel that goes under the screen. I can open a blog today and aggregate news from Twitter, Facebook, IG and traditional media, and my work would rival or even better what Nairaland does. Aggregating stale news is lazy work, and people that engage with news platforms do so for the timeliness of the news they generate, then then analysis before you even start talking aggregation. Aggregation is the laziest and most boring part of news production, and aggregating news is not Nairaland's strength either, at least in recent years. Truth is people have relied a lot less on Nairaland for news since Twitter became more mainstream, and if they like they should aggregate news from as far as Pakistan as long as it's the way they've been going about it past couple years, it won't make any difference to the bottom line, and that's all that matters. |

Nairaland an hour ago: School Shooting in Prague, Czech Republic. https://www.nairaland.com/7945938/mass-shooting-prague-university-czech Reddit frontpage: Still limited to the topics/subreddits I follow mostly. Twitter trends for people in Nigeria few minutes ago: Screenshot attached. None is really news. --- If I were waiting in a lounge for a meeting, which of the news aggregator platform's homepage really serves me right now in terms of news as in "news" so I can skim through recent newsworthy happenings locally and in other climes? Gentlemen, that's why Nairaland towers above them if you have no time for going into digital rabbitholes. This is why even very busy people tend to scroll through Nairaland to get a pulse of recent happenings in the shortest time possible. Point(s) made. ![]()

Companies don't focus on skimmable news aggregation because there's no money there, and it's just not how the majority of people engage with news. Do you want to make money or you want to create skimmable content? ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 9:24pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
Theflint1:See? Now you are changing the scope. I mentioned news aggregation and that only. You skipped that to add an argument about monetising the platforms and content. You're shifting the goalposts. Don't add to what wasn't implied so far. Nobody mentioned monetisation all through until now that you can no longer defend you stance. The point has been made. The floor is free for you to trash Nairaland based on monetisation. That you can enjoy unchallenged. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 9:33pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
DissTroy:My point about monetization is an offshoot of my main point, which is that nobody cares about news aggregation, so it's not a strength per se. Anybody can do news aggregation Nairaland style, and anybody includes Twitter, Facebook and Reddit, but the reason they don't is there's no money there, and it's not because News aggregation is some unique edge that they can't break into if they so desired. I'd probably give it to you, news aggregation happens to be a feature of Nairaland, but I'm willing to bet that the bulk of people that visit Nairaland don't do so because they want to skim through the news of the day, they do so for other reasons. You can't sell Nairaland off news aggregation as a leading strength, especially when it's stale news being aggregated, so it's funny you're going on and on about their "strength" in aggregating news like it's some unique competitive advantage. |

Bombblacks:Depends on what you are looking for Nairaland is already a subtopic in itself, the topic being Nigeria And for all things Nigeria, Nairaland is by far the best. I use Twitter solely for crypto. I don't follow anything besides crypto accounts on Twitter as I don't want my notifications to be distracted with junk and miss an opportunity. I'm sure if I curate my Twitter feeds to follow Nigerians accounts and topics, I will get Nigerian news faster on Twitter. Every platform has it's own intricacies and gives you back what you feed it. |

Can anyone explain how there is cash scarcity in Nigeria? With old notes plus new notes in circulation, one would think there is enough physical cash to go round Or were all the old notes that were returned to CBN burned or something? |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 10:10pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
Theflint1:Actually, it is. That's why it gets the traffic it gets for such a 2008-esque website. Asides news aggregation, fast-indexing, and accessibility on multiple devices, Nairaland has no other advantage. The aggregation is why Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, said he visits Nairaland nightly. And why many people admit they visit Nairaland. --- But if we go in terms of monetisation, Nairaland is very bankable. Due to fast-indexing and SEO ranking, you can actually start and control a narrative with it. Nairaland is the perfect propaganda tool and it comes with seeming anonymity. A propaganda tool is a treasure box. You know what it means to be the highest-ranked indigenous website in a country of 200 million and 80 million internet users? And the most traffic too after Bet9ja. If Google searches are anything to go by, the first they'd see are what you post on Nairaland for those in Nigeria. An advert on Nairaland would only come second to Google ads if the geolocation is set to Nigeria. Now if it were to run squarely on ads and the posts syndicated on Twitter like it currently is? A startup/website's valuation is an estimation of what money in can make in the future. Based on the criteria above, Nairaland is very bankable. The only reason it isn't yet brings back to Séun. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:25pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
DissTroy:There are people that visit Nairaland for it's front page news aggregation, but the majority of people that visit Nairaland don't do so for that reason. Garba Shehu visiting Nairaland to feel the pulse of the nation is expected, it should practically be part of his job description as a special assistant on media or whatever it was, to visit on a daily major social media sites in the country, of which Nairaland is number one. Selling Nairaland on its strength on news aggregation would be an epic fail, since most person's that visit the site today do so for reasons other than it's front page news aggregation. I don't doubt the monetization potential of Nairaland, Seun is cashing out, and I'm sure he can make even more serious money if he makes some tweaks here and there. Remember the conversation started from you comparing Nairaland to Twitter and Reddit, and dunking on them cause they don't aggregate news as well as Nairaland, and my response was that news aggregation isn't really a strength (even for Nairaland that engages in it), and that's why those guys don't aggregate news Nairaland style. If the argument is about the strength of Nairaland in Nigeria, it holds it's own well. I don't think it's the source of news for as many Nigerians again though, especially with the rise of Twitter and even Instagram. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 10:26pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
TheFlint1, here's another reason why Nairaland is very bankable: The owner of infoguidenigeria.com used to charge #250,000 for frontpage adverts between 2017 and 2018 when the website was ranked in the top 30 in Nigeria. Nairaland was already top 2 even then, but Séun was charging relative peanuts yet Nairaland had faster indexing and multiple times more traffic. Joseph1832 would confirm I used to do these comparative analyses between 2016 and 2018 with screenshots to back up my claims. Nairaland is very bankable; it's just not well-managed. |

Ibime:Cash is not returning to banks. Filling stations, supermarkets, market women e.t.c all sell money to people doing POS. Those doing POS in turn sell to the average Joe on the street. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:32pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
DissTroy:Nairaland is bankable, I tackled it's UX strategy when you brought Reddit into the discourse. Nairaland is boss in Nigeria, and I think the reason was because it did the simple things well at the beginning and it has continued to enjoy first movers advantage, doesn't mean it's user experience is quite what it should be well over a decade later. |
