Hamid Mutasher, founder of the Ahwaz Liberal Party in Iran, tweeted this photo of an IDF officer in Gaza and wrote: "Israel crushed its enemies and returned them to the Stone Age, a fact that cannot be disputed. Video claimed to be an Israeli vehicle after falling into an ambush in Gaza on 23/12/2023. Gunfire holes can be seen everywhere around it. As of now, the Israeli army only acknowledged 44 injuries, including 10 in critical conditions.

Catholic Relief Services, the leading US Catholic humanitarian agency, got the US Congress to officially send GPS coordinates of 4 Catholic sites (churches and convents) in Gaza that shouldn't be struck. Israel confirmed receiving the list but 2 of the sites were still hit by the IDF, a church and a convent, shelled by IDF tanks and fired at by IDF snipers who killed a mother and her daughter harboring in the church; an act the Pope latter qualified as "terrorism" 1 Like

The American Central Command reports that yesterday the American destroyer USS Laboon managed to intercept 4 drones launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea. In addition, two more UAVs were launched at two merchant ships. One of them missed and the other hit a Gabon-registered ship flying an Indian flag. There were no casualties on the ship. According to the Americans, this is the 15th attack by the Houthis on merchant ships since October 17. The American Central Command also reported that the Houthis fired two ballistic missiles yesterday at the shipping lanes in the Red Sea but did not hit anything.

There is fierce criticism within Netanyahu's coalition, and even within his own Likud party, that the government is bowing to American pressure and thus putting the lives of Israeli soldiers at greater risk. 14 soldiers were killed in combat in the Gaza Strip over the weekend. This is the largest 2-day toll since the start of the ground war. And it coincides with a reduction in aerial and artillery bombardment of targets in Gaza. The reduced bombing is seen as a response to pressure from the Biden administration for Israel to stop leveling buildings in Gaza and to move a more "low-intensity" level of combat. But sending soldiers on isolated raids into standing urban areas is far more deadly. Relatively few Israeli soldiers died in the invasion of northern Gaza because the Air Force leveled most of the neighborhoods before the ground forces arrived. There were very few places for Hamas terrorists to hide. IT |
