Lagos Gives Traders At Computer Village POWA Complex 24 Hours To Vacate Property Ahead Of Planned Demolition

The vacation order notices have been pasted on shops at the complex by the Lagos task force.

The Lagos State Government has served a 24-hour quit notice on all the traders at the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) shopping complex in Computer Village in Ikeja.

It was learnt that the government gave the quit notice because the POWA Phase I and II had become dilapidated, defaced, and distressed.

The traders claim that the demolition plan was proposed by Achieving Greatness Limited to the National President of POWA and the National Market Leader.

The affected traders told journalists that there was a court order stopping the planned demolition.

“We might stage a peaceful protest to register their displeasure,” one of them said.

Some traders at the shopping complex on December 20, protested against the move by the government to demolish the complex.

Occupants alleged that the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Elizabeth Egbetokun, purportedly gave the directive for the demolition of the property.

Its only the court that will decide the order that is binding or not.

This notice of demolition has been on for a while and I expect that by now some of the occupants must have relocated.

By tendancy laws, there are procedures to take before ejection a tenant or in fact the landlord cannot even enter into the said property without tenants consent depending on the tenancy agreement.

When the tenant feels the landlord is trying to breach any position of the tenancy law of Lagos state or the tenancy agreement, it is the tenants ' right to approach the court and if he makes out a case the court will surely grant that order till the landlord does the right thing.
