The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has said that the state government will focus on completing ongoing projects across the state in the new year.

Omotoso, who spoke exclusively to The PUNCH in a telephone interview on Sunday, said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s “ambitious N2.2tn budget” would be utilised judiciously for infrastructure development among which hospitals and the new Lekki airport would be prioritised.

“There will be so many ambitious projects. First of all, the projects that we are doing, we are going to be able to complete them. Mercy Seat Hospital. This is going to be the largest, biggest pediatric hospital in Africa by the time it’s completed.

“The Mental Health Centre in Ketu Ejinrin. It’s also going to be completed. Mental health is a big deal. People don’t pay attention to it. They talk about headaches and other things happening to people. But mental health is quite important. And the Lagos State government is giving attention to that. So, that hospital, the 500-bed hospital, will be completed.

“It’s not just going to be a hospital. It’s going to be a rehabilitation centre,” he said, adding, “The hospital we’re building in Ojo, the Ojo General Hospital – the first in decades – will also be completed.”

He further said, “The new airport that we are building in the Lekki area, of course, is going to come on board, too, and so many other big, big projects that will make for a mega city that the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is going to be doing.”

He assured residents of Lagos of “exciting times, exciting moments and great, great projects that we are going to be doing to provide employment, to make comfort for Lagosians” in the new year.

Interesting times ahead for Lagos State. I hope the airport is world class standard. The muritala mohammed ikeja international airport is just a supermarket and mockery of the country that call herself giant of Africa.

Is there any chance that LASG will address the twin issues of water supply and sanitation by employing technicians, administrators, engineers etc to make pipe borne water available in every building and ensure that all buildings have toilets

This would help lift the city out of its worst global city status.

Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.

Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019.

I heard somewhere that Lagos has commenced building of 4th Mainland bridge. I was hoping to get the update from Omotoso. Kudos to LASG. Better times ahead for Lagosians and Nigerians at large.

Please what is good about this since the progressives in charge of the state since 1999 have failed to employ teachers and other workers to put every Lagos child in free schools like the UPN governors and Awolowo did four and seven decades ago with ṣinkinni money compared to the huge resources available to Tinubu and others in the past 24 years plus
