I have realised that if you want those foreign schools to waive your IELTS, write a mind-blowing Statement of Purpose/Personal Statement. The admissions teams read everything word for word. At least a C4 in WAEC English language result will help too.

That's why they always state that even though they have general admission requirements, they treat every applicant's admission case based on his/her unique circumstances.

Also, I said on some thread last year and some Nigerians were saying a whole UK won't suffer the consequences of their anti migration policies. And the British population assume that students and migrants have recourse to public funds when they don't. Lots of disinformation and false narratives being peddled. Baba no mind this people. English we speak and learn in school is quite different from what is spoken here and used in learning. When I came to UK I realised that either the British taught us rubbish or as information over time whether formal or informal lose its form and or to an extent value as it gets handed down from generation to generation. Another I am speculating and I have everything to believe given situation of things surrounding us is that we were taught and we refused to learn. That IELTS is a snippets to how English is used here and honestly I do not want them to write it off.

I prepared for both IELTS academic and general at different times both in less than 10 days and got an above 7.5 band score each time.

The English I learn and speak back home is structurally no different from what is spoken in the UK aside some expected colloquial differences e.g using 'sick' instead of vomit. Many Asians are surprised at our command of the language.

Nairaland is a good example that we communicate well in English which afterall is another option along the many languages we speak.

I think we need to see language for what it is- cultural and dynamic. Words are added yearly to the English dictionary and what constitutes right and wrong moreso at different times in history is never white or black moreso for a language like English.

I could go on and list tens of English words or phrases used only in certain countries or even subregions even within the different countries that make up the UK that are not used elsewhere. Same thing with spellings. E.g When did sick become vomit

UK allows 150 Nigerians in, out of the 150, 125 bring in dependants.

Nigerians, generally are good English speakers. In fact, some of the best in the world. That doesn't mean some Nigerians do not make mistakes with the language.

I have heard some Britons speak and I can tell you that many Nigerians are better speakers of the English language than many Britons. The worse are the Americans. This is why most universities in US and Canada put Nigeria as one of those countries whose citizens (if you studied in Nigeria) do not need to provide an English proficiency test to gain admission. The UK knows how much it gets through the British Council from Nigerians. That is why they require us to provide IELTS.

That’s actually not true. The average international student is younger, single and funded by their parents and family. The average Nigerian international student especially over the last few years is in his or her 40s, married with children and coming as a student solely with the goal of migrating not actually studying. That’s why you see many Nigerians flocking to lower ranked universities which are cheaper and easier to get admission.

Many of these universities are just money mills and don’t give a shit about ensuring the students get good jobs or get a good education.

If they take the option away Nigerians will still go, we are so desperate and hooked that we will still go.

I live in the UK, and I can tell you that Indians and Bangladeshis bring more dependants than Nigerians.

A Nigerian man goes to UK with his wife and kids, that’s all. Worst case, his wife puts to bed, they bring the mother in law for a short stay.

An Indian travels to the UK with his wife only.

Then in few months, he has brought in 5 relatives of his, then his wife too, then those ones bring more and more and more and more.

A Nigerian will come to school and then look for a job permit to remain with his family.
An Indian will get a business or self employed visa and bring in numerous Indians to sell in his corner shop or help with his “small business”.
