The Peoples Democratic Party has revealed that it will be difficult to dislodge the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential election without a genuine coalition.

PDP 2023 Presidential candidate, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, had made a merger proposition, while hosting the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria.

The former Vice President warned against the likelihood of Nigeria slipping into a one-party state.

He said, “We have all seen how the APC is increasingly turning Nigeria into a dictatorship of one party. If we don’t come together to challenge what the ruling party is trying to create, our democracy will suffer for it, and the consequences of it will affect the generations yet unborn.”

PDP Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who stated this in an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, said Atiku made the call to protect the future of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Abdullahi, who alleged that the APC had impoverished Nigerians, said that only a genuine coalition of opposition political parties could boot out the President Bola Tinubu-led APC administration.

He said, “We believe only merger or coming together of all opposition political parties will produce a better result. So there is a need for other political parties to understand that it will be difficult to defeat the All Progressives Congress without a merger.


“So the other political parties must see the reason and identify with the PDP’s clamour for coalition. So, if they see this, then the better for Nigeria’s opposition and the people.

“But if other political parties want to go about it individually, they are not as strong as the PDP. It is very difficult for us to attain the objective of taking charge of the government and sacking this army of occupation that has decided to inflict maximum penury and anguish on Nigerians.”

The PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, also noted that opposition political parties would find it difficult to dislodge the ruling party without synergy with the people.

Atiku himself is the one that keeps empowering APC.
Instead of him to be a kingmaker as Tinubu did to Buhari and bided his time to Emilokan entitlement, he keeps forcing himself on the party,,thereby creating division instead of unifying the party.

Opposition parties need to form alliance for that to happen

There is one saying in Yoruba “Ati to je bolosha lowo, oku baba eni ti o bo”.

The issue is not dislodging Tinubu and APC, it is all about offering a better alternative

They should just save their money and wait till 2031

If Peter Obi cannot have it, Atiku Abubukar won't have it. In that case, Tinubu should continue; it's not like I expected anything from this government. Power remains in the South up to 2031. Power rotation leads to peace, fairness, justice and equity.

PDP missed a golden chance to dislodge APC in 2023, but they messed it up. They should take a chill pill. Tinubu till 2031.

Atiku is a very very useless man. He has lost relevance. All he cares about is money. He wasted his money on overly expensive presidential primaries. Now he is broke. He is not half the leader Tinubu is. Tinubu is a far bigger and better leader. It took the personality of Tinubu and sacrifices to achieve what happened in 2015. Is Atiku ready to sacrifice? He won't ever step down for a southern candidate. The whole idea of coming together is only if he will be the flag bearer. It doesn't work that way.

Realistical if you want to remove APC... That's all u want

But if you want better alternative then stick to labour but it would be difficult to win as the core North is not receptive to the idea

IF only his political genius had economic elements...

How Tinubu managed to win with all the opposition... intra and inter is an unmatchable feat. How Atiku managed to piss away the obvious advantages he had.. both can be explained by each individual's posture post party primaries.

Tinubu visited every single opponent even the ones with zero vote and the ones who would NEVER support him e.g. Amaechi. Atiku decided it was the best time to break the entire PDP coalition by fighting all his potential allies and being uncompromising.

It does not necessarily mean that he will be the flag bearer. He can't even be the flag bearer when we have the likes of Peter Obi. This evil party have to be kicked out, its a task for all WELL MEANING Nigerians.

Nothing motivates them other than looting and embezzling the national cake of this country.

PDP should form coalition with people from Somalia. Because southeast have rejected PDP for not zoning the ticket to southeast.

They were mocking Peter Obi's canopy campaign.

Obi got over 6 million votes with a party that was not known by hundreds of millions of Nigeria. While PDP could not even get 7 million votes.

If Atiku is still selfish to be PDP Presidential candidate, he should pick Yul Edochie as his running mate.
