The world was not fully aware of things then. Social media has done a lot. People are doing more researches and also following events. Few years ago nations were scared to speak out against USA, now its different because everyone is following events. Nations are now voicing out, individuals are speaking up, even their own citizens are calling them out. The results of the failure of their influence is visible everywhere. Francophone African countries ousting france something they wouldn't dare do 2,3 to 5 years ago.

Finally trying to justify the killings of civilians in Gaza when Putin was accused of same crime. Israels civilian kill rate has dwarfed that which putin was accused of. This act alone will be the arrow that will hit their Achilles heel.

Russia didn't invade Ukraine because of trying to influence them, last I checked Ukraine was independent and does trade with anyone they like. A military alliance is what Russia does not want why.
