I've got a sister who told my parents that she doesn't need university education, not because she wasn't smart but because she knew what she wanted. She even had good grades in her SSCE yet she didn't want to know what the four walls of the University looked like.


While growing up, she was clinked to thread and needle. She would practically sew anything using thread and needle.
I remember then, she would sew beautiful bags using just needle and thread.
She even sold most of them.


My Parents asked her, what does she want to do, she said she wants to study Fashion and design.
My parents moved her to Lagos so she would attend the best fashion and design school.
She lived with our senior cousin for protection sake while she schooled.



After a year, she was done but she decided to spend an extra year in her favourite teacher's sewing shop to learn more.
In this life, you need a mentor to pull you by the hand and take you to your destination.
I'll talk about my brother that attended a Technical College and is now an architect because a secondary school teacher took interest in his art skills and perfected him, he is now a University graduate, that's a story for another day.



On her way back home from Lagos, she bought a Teddy bear, that teddy bear inspired her to start making Teddy bags.

So now, She makes:
1. Professional Teddy bags,
2. Teddy bears,
3. Children school bag,
4. Souvenir bags
5. Sews fashionable clothes.
6. She even made my wedding dress.


She's sews all my clothes.

I'm glad she followed her dreams.
In all, one's aim of having a career is to cater for one's self, don't follow the trend, do what you love doing that'll fetch you money.

She's happily married and the mother of the two babies in the photo.

The era of going to the university to read just anything so that you can boost your CV is gone. Most graduates are dragging uber and okada with people who barely had formal education.

The truth is that university is not for everyone.

In all things, a person must know his or her self.

The problem with universities nowadays is that a lot of people get into it for the wrong reasons;
If your vision is to become a fashion designer, go to a fashion school.

If yours is to become a footballer, then go to a football academy and hone your skills.

If yours is to become an engineer, go to university and also get the necessary practical skills too.

If yours is to become a scientist, then go to the university and make sure that you love your field.




Don't follow trends senselessly and end up with regret because if you don't like what you do, you would never be the best or one of the best at it.
