AfahaAbia:Ok, thanks, how's the cost of living compared to cotonou? |
Re: Moving To Cotonou by AfahaAbia(m): 7:05am On Jan 17 |
Stargangz: Porto-Novo is the capital of Benin. It's like say Abuja in Nigeria while Cotonou is like Lagos. The cost of living doesn't have any difference with Cotonou. It lies on the Gulf of Guinea in western Africa. The cost of rent isn't that expensive but be prepared to pay 2 years upfront. I don't know presently but a room should be around 250k a year. If you can convince them for one year they may accept. You never need to worry about electricity and water. It's very constant. But remember they speak French not English. If you can speak Yoruba better for you. 1 Like |

Why not enter Ivory Coast? They speak better French, a larger economy, surrounded by Ghana, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Liberia and Mali, more expats and more avenue to earn? It also looks like Paris. Hardly you'll see a bad major road. And they have no animosity towards Nigerians. Life is pretty good if you are earning well. Stable electricity, safe, and good food culture. And their hospitality in my view, is the best in West Africa. Even the second line of their national anthem talks about Ivorian hospitality, and it's true. I visited Abidjan and Aboisso few years ago and I regretted not staying longer. Most importantly, the administration to establish your residence as an ECOWAS citizen is straight forward and simple. You'll be giving a resident card. Just learn French, you'll love it. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Stargangz: This is not my experience and the experience of Nigerians I know that are living in Ivory Coast. I have a formula that has keep me going well in all my global travels. It is that you should respect the host culture, learn their language, integrate into the community, have a legit job you're doing and you're known with, be peaceful and carry yourself with grace. You cant have any problems with the above formula. You are not your friend. Your experience if you're level headed will be different. 12 Likes 2 Shares |
