Mutfwang hails Tinubu for resisting pressure to influence s’court verdict on Plateau guber dispute

Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, says President Bola Tinubu is a “sound democrat” for not interfering in the gubernatorial election dispute in the state.

The governor spoke on Friday while on a “thank you” visit to Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Last week, the apex court affirmed Mutfwang as the duly elected governor of Plateau on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The supreme court faulted the court of appeal for voiding Mutfwang’s election

Speaking with journalists after the visit, Mutfwang said the president’s “non-interference” in the governorship dispute has solidified Nigeria’s democracy.

The governor said the president was under “tremendous pressure” to influence the outcome of the supreme court judgment in the governorship election in the state.

“I came to see the president purposely to say a very big thank you to Mr President for keeping democracy alive in Nigeria,” Mutfwang said.

“As you all know, I went through a very protracted legal battle and I have said it openly and I am repeating that the Nigerian president is a powerful president.

“If he does not exercise restraint in the exercise of his power, he can intrude into the judicial arena and the judiciary will not be allowed to perform its function.

“In my own case and several others, I am sure we can attest to the fact that Mr. President allowed the judiciary to perform its functions as it should thereby guaranteeing its independence.

“I, therefore, must come to thank him for exercising that restraint because those who wanted to pervert justice also brought tremendous pressure on him to see how he could interfere, but I must put it that Mr President choosing not to interfere is a credit to his statesmanship
.

“A credit to his credentials as a sound democrat, and this is the only way we can ensure that our institutions mature to the point where they can guarantee not only the survival of democracy but also ensure that institutions should be able to survive, develop and outlive individuals.”

Mutfwang said he also informed the president about the security situation in the state.

“Of course, you know Mr President will not meet me and not ask about the security situation on the Plateau. I also give them an update,” he said.

“Things are relatively calm at the moment. The security agencies are in the pursuit of the perpetrators of this dastardly act that we experienced during the Christmas period and we are doing our best together with the federal government and international donor partners to be able to mitigate the pain of those families who lost their loved ones, and also those who are internally displaced.”

The governor said his administration is doing everything possible to “prevent further occurrence” of “needless bloodshed” in the state

Stop making Tinubu look like a saint. That man is a confirm rigger.
However,Wait until 2027 election and see how he and his party will sweep other political parties away from their strongholds with a massive rigging.
Governorship election in Lagos State where he made his fortune are always marred with thugs who intimidate and burnt ballot boxes.
The tribunal judges and security turns a blind eye.
Tinubu detest competition.
Did you see him give appointment to politicians who contested APC presidential election primaries and later collapsed their structures for him?
Fayemi, osinbajo and their likes were all label as traitors simply because they contested APC presidential primaries with Tinubu.

Sadly.

Nigeria remains a zoo
The only country in the world where winners admit the president has the powers to coerse the supreme court justices to decide against them but chose not to do so

He had a limit to what he could influence without making the judiciary look very very stupid

They tried but they refused

They gave him his own as president based on an arrangement. Of course these governors spent money paying lawyers and bribing judges

By appreciating the president,it is a big indictment on the president and a let down on our judiciary. Nassarawa state governor quickly ran to Abuja to appreciate the president after the supreme court judgement, when it was obvious the election that brought him was flawed and the wishes of the people was subverted....this is true definition of a banana republic.
Muftwang won outrightly by overwhelming majority and APC in their usual way tried to see if they can take it through the back door and the rest is now history. Why the hell is he going to Abuja to appreciate the president,he is losing credibility by going to Abuja and they masses that voted him are watching.

Let's observe Tinubu closely. It seems even the opposition loves him. I'm not his fan but how he is influencing other parties shows he is very powerful and he understands Nigerian politics than any politician alive in this nation today. From the day he settled PDP crisis in Rivers State, I concluded there is no opposition to his agenda.

This tells you that the Supreme Court Fraud isn't supreme!

This also Tells you the judgements of the presidential election petition tribunal and appeal at the Supreme Fraud were influenced by Tinubu!

These guys are clowns. They appear not to notice that the prevailing security situation especially in Plateau and Kano, was what forced the hand of the Presidency. I daresay Kano and Plateau states would have been in anarchy if the apex court had ruled in favour of the ruling party because the tension on ground was palpable.

Still, Tinubu is comparatively better because Buhari would have interfered regardless of the outcome.

You think politics is just for politics sake?

It is to make the standard of living of citizens better. Tinubu is practicing bad politics if the incompetent Bubu is better than him interms of the ability of Nigerians to meet their needs.

You cannot even compare this regime to GEJ administration, its incomparable. GEJ administration is a million times better!

Because as he said the Nigerian Presidency is powerful. Maybe even more powerful than the US. ( notice I said Presidency not President)

He said Tinubu did not and has not been interfering in election cases. He is not the first to say so. This is a good thing. In the past, there were even Presidents who frustrated Supreme court judgements. OBJ and Ngige come to mind.

Nobody loses credibility because they are close to the Presidency. The President is the President of all Nigeria including states with governors from other parties. This is constitutional democracy not a mortal combat video game! Governors understand that there needs to be a working relationship between state and central government. Their people understand that too.

Yes you are right
THEY WERE INFLUENCED BY TELLING OBI AND LP NOT TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE THAT THEY WON THE ELECTION.
slowminds everywhere.
You think people win court cases by shouting "I WON I WON I WON"
Una go shout tire but no evidence to show you won.
You think winning Lagos and Abuja equate winning the entire country?
How many votes Obi get for North.
Una no dey think..

Even when Obidients collated results on Twitter you guys still lost, even when na una decide to run am by unaself.....
You people should go and sit down.

That's how IPOB will be shouting "We want freedom" ask them "freedom from what?" And they begin to stammer, they don't know what they want to be free from.

Politics is a means to an end, not the end itself. The purpose of politics is to enable the chosing of leaders that would improve the wellbeing of citizens.

If the wellbeing of citizens continually go down, it means the politics is bad. You're praising a driver that knows how to do stunt but never gets to his destination
