I am glad you indicated that this is a Christian Ritual. No follower of Jesus Christ who was sent only to the Lost Sheep of Isreal would be caught dead praying in public where anyone can see or hear him - Matthew 6 vs 6 - 15. Disobedience of this Law pitches one from among the class of the Pharisees.

Anyone who prays in public where He can be seen by another individual or even heard by another is no different from a Pharisee. That is what Jesus Christ Himself taught in His Gospel. So do you think Jesus Christ was being stewpid in Matthew 6 vs 6 - 15.
