Kingsley Moghalu Backs Decision To Move Some CBN Offices To Lagos by Biodun556(m): 2:11pm On Jan 22 |
Kingsley Moghalu, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has called on staff of the apex bank to support the recent management’s decision to relocate some departments to Lagos. Moghalu, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his concern on Sunday about some staff dissatisfaction with the CBN’s decision to relocate departments from Abuja to Lagos, urged support for the move, citing the overcrowded conditions at the Abuja headquarters. He tweeted, “I have seen reports of “disquiet” among some @cenbank staffers over the Bank management’s decision to move some its departments to the CBN Lagos office. I don’t see any serious basis for such “disquiet”.” The CBN former deputy governor highlighted that the Lagos office, completed and inaugurated approximately 12 years ago, has been underutilized. He explained that the staff numbers at the Abuja headquarters exceed the health and safety limits of the building, hence the need to relocate. Moghalu said that the decision to move departments to Lagos is seen as rational, given that the market entities supervised by these departments are predominantly located in Lagos. The former official stated, “I don’t see any serious basis for such ‘disquiet.’ So, what’s the problem? Seems a rational decision to me.” https://businessday.ng/news/article/moghalu-backs-cbns-decision-to-move-some-departments-to-lagos-calls-for-support/?amp=1 3 Likes 2 Shares

Lagos is already full. Besides, Nigeria has 36 states and the FCT. Stop the obsession with Lagos and the FCT. Move things to other regions across Nigeria to benefit from government presence. 5 Likes |

CBN headquarters can even be in Lagos being the economic powerhouse of the country after all,we have all national bank headquarters in Lagos which CBN is supposed to supervise..Now having some critical departments of CBN in Abuja won't make the CBN effectively monitor the banks. There was a time when Unity Bank had its headquarters in Abuja because of northern influence on the bank. But for sustainability and more business opportunities, they had to move their headquarters to Lagos. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Jogs1900: Oga, they should decentralise this country. Every organisation shouldn't have its headquarters in Lagos and you don't expect a chaos. Lagos is already a hellhole. People waste productive time in traffic and complain bitterly, but they can do nothing about it. If we had a serious government, they would ask organisations to strategically move their headquarters across regions in the country and enjoy massive government support. This is how America spread its wealth, and not concentrate it around one state. 2 Likes |

SmartPolician: You cannot tell businesses what to do New York City is not even the Capital of. New,York state but is the financial capital not just of the USA but the World. The Fed has it's headquarters in Washington with 3000 staff there. It has the same number of staff in New York because there is a need. The stock Exchange and Capital Markets are in Lagos and there is nothing any government can do about that. Your claim about America is imagination New York is a dominant financial hub and America never told anyone what to do. Stop misinformation 3 Likes |

Nigeria is ripe for three core capitals. 1. Administrative Capital - Owerri 2. Political Capital - Abuja 3. Commercial Capital - Lagos |
Re: Kingsley Moghalu Backs Decision To Move Some CBN Offices To Lagos by papyjaypaul: 6:25pm On Jan 22 |
MadamExcellency:I like your suggestion, this is like Egypt and South Africa. Why Owerri for number 1. Why not Calabar or Ajaokuta? No 2 and 3 are already that. If not for Babangida, Lagos would have been 3, 1 and 2. Why not move admin back to Lagos where it all started from? We can save money 1 Like |

Parachoko:FG is not, so the same FG should use its discretion to spread development across the country by intentionally encouraging the decentralization of both public and private enterprise presence, as it's done in developed countries. That's why it's almost difficult to see any major difference between New York and California or Texas or Florida, etc, because economic activities are not concentrated in NY and DC, like we have in Nigeria. Or you think the American govt just sat back and those things happened?? |
