Bayo Onanuga: Tinubu Has No Plan To Move Nigeria's Capital To Lagos by Islie: 2:25pm On Jan 24
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, said the President has no plans to move the Federal Capital to Lagos.

Onanuga said those peddling rumour are dishonest, ethnic and regional champions, trying to draw attention to themselves.

He claimed that those pushing the campaign of falsehood know they are playing politics, albeit dangerous politics to pitch the North against the South.

According to him, Abuja has come to stay as it is backed by law.

His statement followed the recent relocation of FAAN, a department of the Aviation Ministry, to Lagos.

Onanuga said there are many parastatals that are not based in Abuja depending on their mandate, insisting that Administrative decisions should not be politicized.

“President Tinubu has no plan whatsoever to move the Federal Capital to Lagos. The rumour first surfaced during the campaign last year by opponents looking for all manners of weapons to stop him. We trashed it.

“Those peddling it anew are dishonest, ethnic and regional champions, trying to draw attention to themselves. Abuja has come to stay. It is backed by law.

“The movement of FAAN, a department of the Aviation Ministry to Lagos, where it was based before former minister Hadi Sirika moved it to Abuja during the last administration, does not amount to moving the FCT to Lagos. The administrative move should have attracted scant attention, as Lagos is the commercial capital and the hub of aviation business in Nigeria. FAAN should be nowhere else but near the industry it regulates. FAAN will still maintain some presence in Abuja, as it is not a wholesale movement.

“Similarly, the movement of some departments of the CBN to Lagos should not trigger any hoopla. The departments concerned, including the bank supervision department, are those dealing with commercial banks, all with headquarters in Lagos. A regulator ought to be close to the businesses it regulates.

“All those pushing this campaign of falsehood know they are playing politics, albeit a dangerous politics to pit the North against the South.

“There are many parastatals that are not based in Abuja depending on their mandate. NIMASA is in Lagos. So is NPA. The National Inland Waterways Authority( NIWA) is in Lokoja, not Abuja. Will the people opposing the movement of FAAN and some CBN departments want those agencies to be in Abuja, where there is no single port and no maritime activity?

“Administrative decisions should not be politicized. Let it not look like whenever we are temporarily not at the helm of affairs, we create all manners of dangerous rumours to distract from the bigger picture and emasculate an administration led by a Southerner.

“Let’s stop the dirty politics. We can’t be playing politics with everything.”

We know that but leave all headquarters to be in Abuja, it's safer.

Lagos is already overcrowded

Northern politicians and elites are too focused on chasing SHADOWS while their poor, hungry and security-challenged people are yearning for SUBSTANCE.

Northern politicians and elites have better things to press Tinubu's balls for but they leave those things and are threatening him for irrelevant things.

Northern politicians are a huge DISGRACE to humanity.

If Nigeria goes to war today then you'll understand better why I said it's safer in Abuja.
Though the kidnapping in Abuja is on the rise

There's one office called Women centre in Bwari

Behind that office is just swathes of ungoverned land... that probably extends into Kaduna or Niger, I don't know

Honestly u won't feel safe in that environment

From the Local government office in Bwari to this office, u can count the number of houses you will encounter

God forbid

It's like that's where Nabeeha's family were abducted

It's impossible. Who would believe that anyway.

As if Lagos does not have enough people and traffic to deal with.

I don't think anyone needs to defend whether the capital can be moved by fiat.

Senator Ali Ndume and Senator Kawu Sumaila have not explained exactly why they have a problem that some departments of CBN and the headquarters of FAAN are moved to Lagos. They argue that it shortchanges the north and also argue that Abuja is no man's land.

How? When these senseless arguments could not fly, their minions decided to say the capital of Nigeria will move from Abuja to Lagos.

With the way Nigeria is structured, we need regional capitals in Nigeria: Oyo for the southwest, Rivers for the southsouth, Enugu for the southeast, Kano for the northwest, Taraba for the northcentral, and Borno for the northeast. In addition, every geopolitical zone should have their military and police academies, as well as regional offices for CBN, NECO, immigration, customs and co. There should also be regional police to look after the regions, and central police to take care of trans-regional issues. It would also be nice to have regional houses of representatives and scrap the current house of representatives. Then the central government must leave 70% of revenue for each region and use the remaining for common purposes like army, intelligence, currency, maintainance of foreign embassies and others.

For Nigeria to develop, it must come from the regions towards the center. Development from the center towards the region has failed and will fail because the Nigerian environment is rigged against it based on comments from people like Ali Ndume and his co-travellers who are more interested in regional development than national development.

Let everyone contribute and develop at their pace. Let us see if persons like Ali Ndume would be relevant again.

Some people will always be jealous of Lagos success though, that's the current reality, they are always against anything that they perceive will benefit Lagos development.

I have been noticing a pattern now, these people are always against any progress in Lagos either infrastructure or policy. They are just bitter and jealous of Lagos, you will see them wailing on behalf of northerners as if they care, same northerners they called cows for 8 years under Buhari

As an Omoluabi, I have no issues with moving some vital agencies and departments to Eko because Lagos is the face of Nigeria outside the continent and it will enable to agencies and departments to grow and develop in leaps and bounds as they will be rubbing shoulders with same agencies and departments across the globe cool

Only just take note that Next President especially if from the North would reverse all these within 24 hrs after inauguration.
This is an exercise in futility, Nigeria has other pressing needs please.

Our politicians should stop behaving like idiots.
