Is there any reason why?
Is it a tradition thing?

If you want juicy and sweet tasting udara, look for the Enugu specie.

Hint: the best time to buy the sweetest udara is towards the end of February. This set ripens and drops from the tree without human interference. The ones currently in the market are man-plucked and majority will have a slap taste.
Not true, Enugu is not a specific place. You can say look for Nsukka own, or Udi/Ezeagu own, but I know first hand that Enugu town itself gets the rejected/cheap udara unless you go to new market where villagers come to sell.

This is not the same as Imo , some parts of Abia and Ebonyi where you'll always get sweet Udara because competition is little so traders get first hand original products.

In all, sweet Udara (Udara nwa nnu) is not specific to any region but varies from compound to compound, not even village to village. It depends on the type of Udara you picked (not plucked).

They are sweeter and were planted centuries ago and mostly own by community.

In Imuokpa, people hardly climb to pick them as mountain is difficult to access
