It isn't because they care to that extent, at the time they have their eyes on Europe. It is not like Russia haven't tried to invade other countries before but at the time their eyes were on Europe and they didn't see much value in Africa, proximity was also another factor. You think if Russia was as close to Africa as UK they wouldn't colonise Nigeria or other area in Africa ?
